Winter
Park took dead aim on a mythical Orange County prep cage title
last night with a convincing 59-42 victory over Bishop Moore,
its fourth straight and third over county competition.
While the Wildcats were putting an end to Bishop
Moore's four-game victory string, Edgewater chased off its worst
"first half blues" of the year to whip Ocala, 69-57,
and gain the finals of the Sunshine Conference tournament in Ocala.
Elsewhere, Evans was the first cage duel with
crosstown foe Colonial handily, , 62-29, Ocoee squeezed past Kissimmee
in the final three seconds, 51-50, and Lakeview whipped Wildwood,
60-53, in an Orange Belt Conference encounter.

Winter
Park vaulted to a 9-0 margin in the first three minutes and
though Bishop Moore closed that gap quickly to 9-7, the Hornets
never caught up. By the time the first period was over, the Parkers
were back in front comfortably, 19-8, and were never threatened
much the rest of the way.
Guard Danny Wiser once again topped Winter Park,
with 14 points, though he hit only four in the first half. Three
other Parkers, Carl Dunn with 12, Irv Broughton with 11, and Mike
Mosher with 10, also hit in double figures.
John Lane's jump shots netted 16 points to lead
Bishop Moore, which meets Evans in the Davis Armory tonight in
hopes of regaining the victory habit. Jack Sullivan added 13 for
the Hornets.
