Speaches were made and then we all went to the Officer's Club for a very nice reception on the ocean. The local (PAFB) Security Police Squadron made all the arrangements. Some of the men in the Squadron worked for me when I was the Squadron Commander at Randolph AFB in Texas. When I retired, we had 66,000 enlisted Security Police and 1200 commissioned officers. The USAF gives you the choice to retire near your home of record (Winter Park) or in place from your overseas assignment. I chose the former location. My last duty assignment was as the Regional Security Officer (RSO) for NATO in the "Med." I had responsibilities in Italy, Greece, Turkey and Gibraltar. I spent most of my time inspecting the security operations of these NATO allies. This was during the era of Desert Storm and similar unrest in the "Med." Chip Schram |
