When
I found the War Ration Book No. 3 that was issued to me when I
lived in Fairfield, Connecticut I couldn't help but want to scan
it and put it on our alumni web site. Whew!! We were too young
to remember what our families were going through with restrictions
on so many items that we take for granted today. Unfortunately
I don't remember if my parents ever told me any stories about
what it was like trying to hold down a job, run a household and
raise a family during that time.
I
do remember that I was told that my parents had to borrow gas
rations from friends to drive to upstate New York. I was born
in Cortland, NY (upstate New York) and brought home to Fairfield,
Connecticut, from there. That was quite a trip - particularly
during the war.
Well,
it must have worked out ok but I couldn't help but take a real
interest in this ration book. I wonder how many folks can remember
going through those days, eh?
