Biggest Bass Tom Tobin Ever Caught, 1957
(Picture provided by Tom Tobin.)

Here are pics of the biggest bass I ever caught. It weighs 10 lbs and was 28 inches long. I caught it in Lake Howell, when I was in 8th grade at Glenridge and still riding a bicycle. Now this will take you back in time. I lived near Lakemont and Aloma(On Byron) and I used to ride my bike North on Lakemont to Lake Howell Road and through Tanglewood. I would continue past Howell Branch Road and Charlies Bar and the Turkey Farm. I would continue until about 1/4 mile from where it meets 436 now. Remember, 436 wasn't there then.......it was just a 2 lane extension of Lake Howell Road and continued to 17-92. Anyway, I would park my bike in an Orange Grove and walk back through the grove to some woods (where 436 is now) and then follow Howell Creek towards Lake Howell. For awhile, you would have to wade through water along the creek and when you finally reached the lake, there was a sandbar that was built up from the creek flowing into the lake. It was always creepy doing this because it was always early in the morning and semi-dark when I was doing this. The bass used to hang at the edge of the sandbar waiting for baitfish. We didn't have plastic worms back then........we used black porkrinds that came in a bottle of black dye solution. After I caught the bass, I carried him back to my bicycle and hung him from the handlebars as I rode home..................I got all kinds of looks and people honked their horns and waved at me.

The picture is of the bass frozen............Dad wanted to have it mounted. We never came up with the money to mount him.........so we thawed him and ate him.
