Subject : Can you remember Signal Hill?

Lord help us, I remember Signal Hill! I
remember the deep troughs of sand, and how you could NEVER change
classes without SAND all in your shoes. And we wore saddle shoes
and socks, and the classes were SO HOT in the summer, and SO COLD
in the winter. We went to school in those old barrack buildings,
and it was forever between buildings, you could never get to class
on time. Remember Mr. Kent, the seventh grade social studies teacher?
He was a great teacher, and we all called him "High Pockets"
behind his back because it seemed that he wore his belt around his
chest. I am sure that was probably he was so tall and we were all
so short. I went to 6th AND 7th grade there. I had Miss Krause for
6th grade, and was a patrol girl. We spent the second half of the
year being the "guests" of Audubon Park Elementary, but
we were always the outsiders.
