"This
is a reflection of the great productivity that we have at
this university," said Provost, Dr. Linda Peterson. "It
is a source of enormous pride to be a member of a faculty
that makes such a large and meaningful contribution."
This year’s
awards, held Monday, April 23, were hosted by the Faculty
Senate and their publication, “Communiqué.â€
In addition to naming all faculty members that make contributions
of this kind, the event also honors two recipients with the
Outstanding Faculty Member Award and the Sister Jeanne O’Laughlin,
OP, Scholar’s Award.
This
year, Dr. Artur Poczwardowski, associate professor of sport
psychology, was named 2007's Outstanding Faculty Member. The
award is presented annually in recognition of professional
accomplishments at Barry University for the preceding academic
year. In order to apply, Dr. Poczwardowski and other applicants
were asked to submit narratives with a list of accomplishments,
and evidence of educational excellence, scholarly and professional
development and public and university service.
The
Sister Jeanne O'Laughlin, OP, Scholar's Award is similar,
but limits recognition to scholarly performance within Barry
University. Dr. George Fisher, professor of Physical Sciences,
was this year's honoree. For the award, Dr. Fisher and other
applicants also had to submit a list of scholarly accomplishments
in publications, presentations, speaking engagements, authored
books, grant history and creative activities.
Dr. Poczwardowski
and Dr. Fisher were selected out of a faculty with many contributions
in each of these areas.
"I
would like to express my gratitude and admiration to my colleagues
for their hard work and scholarly activities," Dr. Peterson
said.
