Lee "Slugger" Van Wormer VanWormer, Lee, 64, of Winter Springs, passed away Friday, December 7, 2007. Lee was born March 31, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Olive S. VanWormer. Lee graduated from FSU with a B.S. in Social Studies education and from UCF with a master's degree in School Library Media. She worked for 32 years in the Orange County School System as a teacher of the gifted and then as a media specialist. Lee was elected Teacher of the Year for her school in 1987. After 12 years of teaching, Lee took a 2-year break to work in Colorado on a guest ranch. During that time Lee tried white-water rafting, mountain and rock climbing and horseback riding. When her mother became ill, Lee moved back to the area and finished out her teaching career. In 2000, just before retiring, Lee purhcased a home in the Tuskawilla area where she spent her time working on the house and yard while taking breaks to read, take walks, visit the malls, work at the church, and take an occasional trip. Lee will be missed by many as she was loved by all who knew her. Lee is survived by her sister Sandra. From: Linda Riddle <lmriddle@aol.com> I'm sorry to have to tell you that Lee Van Wormer passed
away suddenly on Friday, Dec.7, 2007 at her home in Winter Springs.
She evidently died from a massive heart attack. She was a cherished
friend and mentor to many of us who knew her as our Girl Scout leader
and counselor back in the 60s. Lee had kept in touch with us all these
years and we had several scout reunions over the past year or so. Our
last reunion was in Orlando on Dec.1 and that was the last time I personally
visited with her. As always, Lee was bright, sunny, fun and energetic.
A wonderful story teller, singer of songs and instigator of all things
fun.
