Susan Carter Ricks RICKS, SUSAN CARTER, 73, of Tucker, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016. Born June 27, 1943, in Austin, Texas, she was the daughter of the late John Edward, Jr. and Joyce Stanbra Carter. A devoted Mom, Grandmom, mother-in-law, and friend, she loved life and especially her grandchildren: Leah, Hailey, and Curtis. She loved the beach, attending theatre events at the Fox and Horizon Theatre, going to festivals in downtown Decatur, and going to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. She was a long-time member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon. She was a light and joy to all who knew her and she left us way too soon. The family receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, November 25th at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. A graveside service will precede the funeral at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Decatur City Cemetery. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church of Tucker with reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan's memory may be made to Canine Companions for Independence at cci.org. Feel free to leave the family your condolences via the guestbook provided. -------------------------------------------------- Bill Ronay at services for Susan Carter Ricks - November 26, 2016 A morning of rejoicing in the life and experiences of Susan Blythe Carter Ricks...The Reverend Camille LaBron Powell officiated in a truly inspiring "Service of Witness to the Resurrection and Celebration of the Life of..." our friend and classmate. What had begun as a sad dawn, clouds, and cold winds quickly gave way to brilliant blue skies, warming breezes, and sunshine.. As one of the speakers, a youthful college student being
mentored by Susan, referenced in his Eulogy (and I'll paraphrase), "Susan's
presence in our lives and continuing at that very moment was the reason
for such beauty." Thunderstorms and rain had been occurring right
up to the night before his leaving to attend today's service...only
to miraculously turn to a gorgeous morning on the day he left... Several of you have asked regarding donations in Susan Carter Ricks' name. A message on the bulletin indicated "...in lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church; 4882 Lavista Road; Tucker, GA 30084. We love you, Susan. Until we meet again... David Brooks Rees, Mary Lavalle, Joe Miller, Carol
Andreyev, Winter Park High, Anne Ryder, Mary Phillips, Camille Ronay
