After
a frantic Christmas holiday, W.P.H.S. has again started up its
social whirl--parties, dances and all the other social functions
that go into making a weekend so much fun.
After the home Bishop Moore game,
Carol Peterson held an open house for some of the girls. Some
of those seen munching cookies and drinking hot cocoa were S.
Hearn, L. Lee, P. Seacat, S. Butler, M. Pike, H. Tilson, G.
Ouzts, and A. Shaver.
Meanwhile, at the Twirp Twirl
given by the Latin Club after the Bishop Moore game, paper dolls
all with swishing blue crepe paper skirts. S. Chace and I. Broughton,
J. Cook and J. Pascoe, J. Reding and D. Wiser, J. Crawford and
R. Cayll, J. Jones and M. Wenninger, S. White and F. Ferguson,
F. Ussery and R. Bissland, and J. Ross and D. Morgan were among
those dancing that night.
The D.C.T. gave a spaghetti dinner
not too long ago, to which only members of the D.C.T. were invited.
The dinner was held at Mrs. Smith's house with Ray Cullifer
acting as host. Afterwards the gang all went bowling. Among
the group there were H. Peacock, D. Buchannan, J. Ricketson,
J. Ellis, B. Forrester, J. Hollingsworth, G. Ouzts, J. Mentzer,
and T. Kirkham.
After the Lakeview game, the Calypso
Capers dance was put on by the D.C.T. in the cafeteria. L. Smith
and C. Matthews, S. Crews and T. Cushing, M. Dienning and P.
Jacobs, N. Swartout and S. Brown, M. Brown and C. Brooking,
Milo and Ruby, and A. Shaver and B. Tiller were some of those
cutting the capers.
Pert sophomore Ronnie Hoose had
a birthday party in her home January 17th. Helping celebrate
her fifteenth birthday were J. Buchannan, N. Jump, B. Pickrin,
R. Carter, J. Goldman, L. Ellis, B. Little, B. Kilwort, A. Ellis,
L. Thackston, J. and P. King, R. Buhl, A. Laing and many more.
The Hi-Y-an Hop, put on by the
Hi-Y (who else?) after the Boone game, was quite a success.
The unusual decorations were just one of the factors that helped
everyone to have fun. The hall was decorated with hula hoops
and crepe paper chains hanging from the ceiling. Just to mention
a few of the couples there--C. Cornwall and S. Chace, C. Peterson
and B. Howell, L. Lee and H. Dixon, S. Montgomery and I. Broughton,
B. Dean and L. Smith, G. Wattles and W. Baker, D. Carr and C.
Hall, and C. Muller and N. Wren.
John Myers held a party at his
house not long ago. The couples danced, ate, and listened to
records. As a special attraction, one of the gang taught them
hoe to calypso. So some of the kids seen calypso-ing around
were John and his date, N. Wren, K. Kilborne and S. James, C.
Cornwall and H. Marwick, J. Harmeling and P. Clark, D. Harmeling
and J. Cunningham, J. Mayer and C. Cubbedge, J. Hammilton and
J. Cook, and B. Sutphen and A. Breathwit.
Jean Clarke was given a huge going-away
party by Sandy Philhorn on the sixteenth of January. The girls
all signed an address book for the honoree, given to her by
the hostess. Most of the gang were there, saying their "So
longs" and "Good lucks" to their Junior friend.
Among those there were J. Duckworth, L. Heinzen, N. Geisler,
the Bibb sisters, R.J. Williams, M.J. Strand, E. Ratterie, M.
Darrah, P. Mitchell, J.A. Cunningham, S. Duree and C. Rice.
