Juvenile Delinquency On Rise In Area

"If parents always knew where their children were there would be no juvenile delinquency", said speaker Ben Griffin at the last PTA meeting, January 27,
With this statement, and many examples to back it, Mr. Griffin was able to convince the large gathering of teachers and parents that juvenile delinquency actually is caused by juvenile parents - parents who are so busy, or so indifferent to their children's activities, that they create the home situation which breeds this rapidly increasing modern problem.
Juvenile delinquency is rising in Orange County with the great influx of new people into the area. Mr. Griffin urged that more be done to create recreational opportunities for the children. Also, that church members should encourage new people to affiliate with some church.

Home Making Classes Entertain

Members of ninth grade Home Making Classes have started their unit on entertaining faculty members at luncheons.
Groups of girls work together planning the meal, and are responsible for the purchasing of materials, preparation and serving of the meals.
Faculty members have been unanimous in their approval of the meals served to them.

A menagerie of birds will be featured in Valentine's Pet Parade on February 7.
The birds have been on such top shows as Ed Sullivan, Big Top, Super Circus, Hollywood Junior Circus performing remarkable feats of skill.
Shows will be given 5th and 6th periods. Admission is ten cents.

Science Club Receiver Now In Operation

Four Science Club members have erected a short wave radio antenna running from the corner of the furnace room across the store room between rooms 11 and 12, to a post over room 1. The radio station is located in the store room with a receiver now in operation.
The committee who have worked on this project are Gilbert Patton, David Bailey, Roger Atkinson, and John Langley. Langley is a licensed amateur operator. His call letters are KN4SLP.
One of the principle reasons for this project is to receive and record propaganda broadcasts (in English) coming from Radio Moscow.

Students To Confer On Test Scores

The results from the Iowa Test of Educational Development given to the ninth grade last fall will be made to individual students in the near future.
The scores, presented in percentile, compare each student with the norm in all of Florida and the United States.
Students will be called in to the dean's offices for private conferences, in which their scholastic weaknesses will be pointed out and means of correction suggested. In this way students will know which subjects should demand their greatest attention if they are to correct these weaknesses before a similar test is given in12th grade. The twelfth grade test is a determining factor in college entrance.

Conduct Is Topic At Special Assembly

Conduct was the subject of a specially called assembly on January 23.
"Behavior should not have to be controlled by too many rules", said Mr. Stockard, Glenridge's principal. "But, if destruction to school property continues it may be necessary to institute many more rules at Glenridge."
"We, at Glenridge, have always been proud of our fine reputation. It would be unfortunate if a few who have not caught the fine spirit of this school were allowed to tear down what many have built up."
