Winter Park opened a fine season with a decisive 69-33 romping of Titusville. Bill DeGarmo was high-pointman for the Cats with 23. The next win was a hard-fought victory over the class AA Boone Braves 61-54. Bear Cayll tossed in 22 to lea Winter Park. Bishop Moore then fell 64-57 and Titusville 65-35; Mike Mosher led the way with a combined 29 points for the two games.
In the Second Annual Elks Tangerine Bowl Basketball Tournament, Winter Park lost to Bishop Moore 45-39. Two of the Cat regulars were ill and they experienced a cold night.
The Wildcats then went on a seven game victory skein including an 84-32 thrashing of Florida Military School. Once again Cayll was high man with 23. The streak was stopped in a revenging defeat by Boone's Larry Tillis who sunk a set shot with seven seconds left to clinch a victory for the Braves.
In the next three games Baroine Cayll went on a scoring spree that netted him 83 points in one week. He tallied 25 in the Wildcat's win over Cocoa, broke the school record with 50 in a 84-64 romp over Sanford, and chipped in 18 more the next night when Wildwood edged the Cats 56-53.
Apopka downed Winter Park 54-46 but Flash Gordon's Spacemen then flew to an easy 73-38 smear of Leesburg with newcomer Charlie Pence scoring seven points in his first game as a Wildcat.
Lakeview edged Winter Park in the O.B.C. Tournament, 54-52. Ronnie Cayll, Bill DeGarmo, and Mike Mosher made All-O.B.C.
In the Group Tournament Winter Park won the runner-up trophy after being nipped by Wildwood 50-48.
The Wildcats closed out the season with a good 18-6 record. Congratulations to Coach Gordon, and his fine team for such an excellent season.
