CIVITAN ESSAY CONTEST

     Any Senior who is interested may enter the Civitan Essay Contest, sponsored locally the the Winter Park Civital Club. The subject to be written on is "Citizenship--A Process of Gradual Achievement." The essay shall contain from 500-1200 words. The local deadline for the essay is March 31. The first prize for this will be $100.00 deposited in a savings account for he winner, and his or her name will be engraved on the Civitan Essay plaque in the office; second prize will be %50.00 deposited in a savings account. The first prize winner will then have his essay go on to the District contest, then to state, and then to National. Come on Seniors! Let's have some competition!

CAROLYN RUELLE--WINTER PARK'S HOMEMAKER OF TOMORROW

     Carolyn Ruelle received the highest score in a 50-minute exam on homemaking knowledge and attitudes, taken by graduating Senior girls in December. She will receive a homemaking pin, and her exam paper will be entered in competition with those of other school winners in the state, to name the state Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow. Good luck, Carolyn.

ORIGINAL MEANING OF ST. VALENTINE'S DAY

     Did you know that Valentine's Day originated in England and Scotland? It was celebrated by exchanging presents, and each young bachelor and girl received, by lot, one of the opposite sex as a "valentine" for the year. Those were the good old days!

     A newly formed High School league, bowling at 4 P.M. on Tuesday afternoons at the Bowliseum Lanes, is being organized. Three on a team...all boys, all girls, or mixed. Learn to bowl. Free instructions, reduced rates. Team competition. AJBC sanctioned league. "Let's go bowling."
