Have
any of you been swimming in Winter Park High's swimming hole
recently? Of course you have. All of us have at one time or
another since the beginning of school. Rumor has it that the
swimming team is going to practice in it this year. What swimming
hole? Where is it? Why, it's located between the gym and the
school. Some one with a sadistic sense of humor recently called
it a road, but that person obviously hasn't tried to drive a
car through it. Unfortunately, however, many of our "Sainted
Seniors" are forced to forego their sainthood daily by
"driving" through it. Many of us have heard the expression,
"Here's mud in your eye!" Try driving down the between-buildings
road, and you can go one step further than that; you'll not
only have mud in your eye, but in your hair, on your windshields,
in your ventilating system (both personal and mechanical), and
all over your sidewalls.
Blissfully
ignorant under-classmen in parts of the school have been heard
to ask, "When is the 'road' going to be paved?" And
immediately whimsical smiles wreathe the faces of by-standing
Seniors; for they know the happenings of the past, and the happenings
of the present, and they realize that the road will never be
paved. Why? Because a paved road would result, it has been conjectured,
in fast and unsafe driving by the students of Winter Park High.
But that is merely conjecture, and nothing has ever been done
to prove its possibility. Winter Park High students are reasonably
mature.

If
entrusted with the responsibility of safe driving on the school
grounds, they would probably pleasantly surprise many authorities.
The school board is willing to back the paving of the road.
How about giving the student drivers of Winter Park a fair chance?
