"Oklahoma"
Cast Selected
By Pamme Anderson
Tryouts for the musical production to be performed by members of the student body were held during the week of January 23rd.
These students receiving leading roles are: Nancy Temple, Laurey; Donna Newberry, Aunt Eller; Jeannie Britt, Ado Annie; Suzanne McMillan, Gertie; David Farr, Curley; Vic Whitehurst, Ali Hakim; Ken Minamyer, Will; bob Glemon, Andrew; Mike Kelly, Slim; Tim Bassler, Ike; and Dick Roberts, Cord.
The chorus consists of 15 singers, 11 of whom are girls, the remain 4 boys. (More boys are needed in the chorus, so if you are a male, and are interested in trying out for this, please contact Mr. Hotaling.)
There are to be several dances throughout the performance, so all the dancers that auditioned will be used in at least one number.
With the excellent choice of characters, and the hard practice and rehearsing that is to follow, it looks as though this musical is destined to be a top-notch success.
Keep in touch with the Wi-Pa-Hi-Sc; you'll get details concerning the progress, players, and performance as soon as they re ready for the press.
JUNIOR CLASS
Pst -- the date of the Prom is out -- the big event will be Friday, April 28th.
The Prom committee isn't saying much, but from their expressions, everything seems to be "snapping and popping."
Says Which?
    Did I say THAT.**
Marion S. (Per. 1 Home Ec.) -- You know how it is -- you just want to kill them!!
Donna N. (on the subject of study habits) -- I always study in the bathtub -- it's kind of rough on the books in the shower!
**You shore did!
Beauty & Brains
Jan Griffen, Editor of Meridian, Miss.'s high school newspaper, "The Wildcat", visited our fair city week before last. This beautiful platinum blonde has been most busy through her high school years. She was editor of Meridian's Jr. High newspaper, a cheerleader, winner of the DAR Award, and the American Legion Award, a straight A student, member of Homecoming Court, and voted "Most Beautiful" in her Junior Year. As a senior, Jan won the Jr. Miss Meridian Contest, and placed third in the Jr. Miss Mississippi contest.
How did Jan like Florida? She loved it. "The Floridians I've met are so much more carefree than people in Meridian!" Jan also noticed that Florida girls dress for school more casually than Miss. girls, whereas, the boys in Winter Park dress sharper than the Meridian boys who think nothing of wearing a torn and tattered football jersey to classes.
How do the schools differ? Quite a lot. Meridian's High School has a Jr. College connected with it which provides extra activities for the high-school students, also. There is a lounge complete with snack bar and jukebox where students may go during their free periods for refreshments as well as dancing. Modern dancing is a course taken by most of the girls. The boys have 7 coaches to lead them onto victory. Not bad, is it? The football stadium is college sized and one of the largest in the state.
Although, Meridian's school is more advanced than dear old Winter Park, Jan loved every minute of her visit here and is looking forward to another trip to the "Sunshine State" this summer!
Human Values
One of Ripley's famous cartoons pictured a plain bar of iron worth $5. This same bar when made into horseshoes would be worth $10.50. If made into needles, it would be worth $3,285. And if turned into balance springs for watches, it's worth becomes $250,000. The same is true of another kid of material -- YOU!
