"Why does Sharon May, a senior at W.P.H.S. want to become a teacher?" Sharon expressed her ambitions in an essay which took first place in the district level contest. Sharon is presently an active member in the Future Teachers of America.

PROM  IS  SEVENTH  HEAVEN
By Donna Newberry

"Seventh Heaven" prevailed last Friday evening as the Junior-Senior Prom 1961 became a reality. The entrance was a beautiful archway decorated with a cotton roof for a heavenly effect decorated with stars and glitter. Inside, the gym fully carried out the theme of "Seventh Heaven" with glittering stars and streamers complimenting the 22 large parachutes hanging from the ceiling to lend a heaven-like atmosphere. Mounting the "Stairway to the Stars", couples could forever retain the memories of this "heaven" and have their pictures taken amid heavenly surroundings.
The Prom as the SENIORS saw it was the fulfillment of what they have been anxiously anticipating for months. It brought back memories of the hard work that we went through last year to make Prom night a memory for last year's seniors.
The Prom was obviously a success as evidenced by the pile of weary shoes that gradually accumulated in the middle of the dance floor and the rapidly diminishing supply of refreshments.
I'm sure that all the SENIORS are grateful to the JUNIOR class, next year's SENIORS, for a lovely memory of one of the highlights of our last year at Winter Park. It was truly a "night in heaven" -- a night to be long remembered.

HERE  AND  THERE
By J. Stephenson

Now that everyone (?) has completely recuperated from the "after the Prom and Beach effects" here are some more prize gems from the den of the Sabertoothed tiger to all his little kiddies.
I suppose many of you have noticed by this time that the Wi-Pa-Hi-Sc has a pinch-hitter sports editor. Name: Sturge. Column: "Benched".
Congratulations to all the batsmen in their fine show for the baseball season. Keep up the good work fellows and we'll go to state.
Let's not forget about the cindermen, also Clark Lambert, Jim Fleming and Gregg Holland, are just a few of the members who have been helping the track team get a good start for the 1961 season.

The swimming team is doing exceptionally well also. Coach Orr and Miss McGill have been very pleased with the teams so far this year. Continue to your climb to the top of the high dive, gang.
Coach Appleman, of the tennis team, has really been doing it up grand. This is his first year at W.P.H.S. and he is already assistant J.V. football coach, assistant J.V. basketball coach, and tennis coach. Talking about tennis, the Wildcat tennis team has stayed undefeated throughout the season and won the Orange Belt Conference to earn the Orange County Championship.
Coach Appleman had these choice words to add: "I couldn't have won anmore games this year, I guess I'll have to just wait until next year. Chad Price looks ten times as good as he did at the beginning of this year and Ricky Chace has improved.

As for Chan Muller . . .well, let me put it this way . . . one day he's a world beater and the next day he's a net beater. Do I make myself clear? But of course he's had a tough season with all his injuries on the court." Other comments by Mr. A. "I'm looking for new talent next year. Maurine Doggett carried the ball for the girl's tennis team and on the whole, the girls must improve for next year." It is interesting to note that neither the champ nor the gals have lost a match this year. On the boys team Ricky Chace, Randy Hall and Chad Price are the rookies to watch.
Coach A. closed with saying "Courts should be ready for next year here at school. The team has been driven to one lone court at the city rec center for practice."
Well, that's about all the news for this week, in closing might I hope that all the sun-burned cats get well soon.
