Homecoming
Court

by Barbara Richardson

Our radiant Homecoming Queen, Sandy Cash, comes to us from Washington, D.C. where she was born in 1942.
Sandy has attended Winter Park High School for the past three years and has made two appearances in the Homecoming Court prior to this one.
We all know Sandy as the girl with the bright smile that we see in the halls and also as one of our most spirited cheerleaders. She was one of the lucky girls chosen to represent last year's junior class at Girl's State this past summer.
Sandy is still uncertain about what college she will attend but she wants to make Dental Hygiene a career.
When asked about plans after college, Sandy smiled and said, "Marriage of course. Doesn't everyone?"

Queen Crowned

Last Friday night's half-time Homecoming activities got under way with a drill from our marching band. After the drill, the band arranged themselves in vertical rows facing the Wildcat stands. The Homecoming Court and their escorts were: Janet Squillanti, Jeff Arnold; Mary Cash, John Delgado; Bobbi Sias, Charlie Matthews; Julie Haynie, John Prevatt; Sigrid Berstrom, Jay Gustafson; Nancy Collins, Alan Price; Jeannie Jones, Richard Winslow; Joanne Horvath, Ken Minamyer; Sandra Cash, David Smith. They walked through the lines of the band, from the farthest side of the field, and waited their turns to proceed through the traditional Homecoming arch. Cheerleaders, Judy Wingate and Marty Wellinger marshaled at each side of the pink rose and ferned arch. As the candidates were introduced, they received large white chrysanthemums and their escorts momentarily stepped aside. Fred Schmidt, brother of Linda Schmidt, was the flower bearer. To the tune of Autumn Leaves, Mr. Wilson and the crown bearer, Cathy Cash, advanced to crown her sister, Sandra Cash as 1960 Winter Park Homecoming Queen. Sandy received a silver crown, silver scepter, and one dozen red roses. Congratulations to our lucky queen.

D.C.T. Program
by Sue Trapnell

Diversified Cooperative Training (DCT3) is a program designed to meet the needs of the non-college student. Here a student can get actual on-the-job experience in his or her field of occupational interest. The program is open to any qualified junior or senior.
During the year a variety of subjects are studied, which are geared to the needs of the student on their respective jobs. Basic information is provided in business economics, income tax, social security, insurance, personal finances, and employer-employee relationships.
Since the time for social activities of this group of students is limited by their hours of work, a club phase of activities is included.
DCT classes have spent the past 2 weeks studying parliamentary procedure while adopting their club constitution, electing officers and other necessary class work.
The purposes of the DCT club are to encourage the undertaking of some worthy civic and school project by the club each year, to foster the best possible spirit of cooperation among employer, trainee, home and school, and to encourage members to direct their efforts toward the development of leadership, scholarship, and service.
Projects for the year include adopting a needy family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, a school beautification project, and the Employer - Employee Recognition Dinner.
