THE HURRICANE The wind whistled past the house, then subsided as if to catch its breath before releasing its fury on everything reachable. The trees moaned and bent nearly over in their protest against its unrestrainable power, but the wind swept destructively on, leaving only a path of ruin, wreckage, and confusion. The torrents of rain came down fiercely pounding themselves into the already sodden earth. The heavens seemed to expel their anger in the rolling thunder and flashes of lightning that illuminated the dark cloudy sky, almost invisible through sheets of rain. As the endless night wore on, the wind and rain grew with intensity, hurling everything unstationary wildly through space. Through my rain spattered windows I could see the wrath of these driving forces as they proclaimed not only a severe storm, but a relentless hurricane. I sat in the sheltered darkness wondering what transformation the first light of the drizzly dawn would reveal. BY... |
