SONNET I

One picture calls to mind adventurous day:
Of ships on mounting waves of torpid main
When brave men stood their watch in pounding rain
And fearful cowards shrank to bunks of mold.

A second bears remembrance of gay times
When we would hum and laugh our hearts content
With taking lightly each unkind lament.
While others hung their heads and cried aloud.

Great masterpiece of painted memories!
Recalling us to past experience,
Give insight to tomorrow's consequence,
What preparations made, on whom to plan.
Don't ask who line the walks of future's halls.
Glance back behind to see who stands, who falls.

A PART OF OBLIVION

O sunset! Why do you beckon to me?
The road of life continues and I follow it
For I am not ready to become a part of oblivion.

Life is to live and to love.
It is joy and sorrow, tears, songs, laughter.
O sunset! Why do you beckon to me?
I will finally come but it is too soon--too soon!
