ATOMIC THEORY in the MANNER of A.A. MILNE
in which IT IS SHOWN THAT NEUTRONS START NUCLEAR FISSION
...and one fine morning POOH NEUTRON was crossing the DEUTERIUM (in the Atomic Pile) when he stopped to sit on a rock in the middle of the stream and decide what to do. He hadn't seen Roo (uranium) since yesterday and he hadn't seen the other side of HUNDRED ACRE REACTOR since the day before yesterday. As he sat in the middle of the stream he begin to sing:
"I could spend a happy morning seeing Roo,
I could spend a happy morning being Pooh.
For it doesn't seem to matter
if I don't get any fatter
(and I don't get any fatter)
What I do."
The heat of the nuclear fission occurring all around him was so delightfully warm and the rock on which Pooh was sitting was getting so delightfully warm that Pooh almost decided to go on being Pooh for the rest of the morning.
However, with a sigh of resignation Pooh crossed the stream and resolutely shot into the nucleus of a 92U235 atom setting off one of those uncontrolled nuclear chain reaction for which nuclear reactors are so famous.
Due to the production of plutonium the radioactive material soon reached the soon critical mass and exploded, taking with it the city of Hiroshima and its environs. As it exploded Pooh sang:
"The more it BLOWS -tiddely-pom
The more it GOES-tiddely-pom
On blowing.
And nobody KNOWS-tiddely-pom
How cold my TOES-tiddely-pom
Are growing."
