EDITORIAL |
"That
teacher gave me a C. I should
have had a B." |
This
is the gist of the sob story
one hears too often on report
card day. The sad part of
it is that the student is
undoubtedly right. He or she
should have gotten a higher
grade, but he didn't because
he didn't work for it. Or
he may have started to work
too late to correct a poor
average |
There
is an old saying in business.
"You get what you pay
for." This means that
seldom, if ever, does one
get a real bargain. The price
of the article reflects its
value. The same holds true
with grades. You get what
you earn. You may not be pleased
about it, but only you can
do something about that. |
Of
course, the letter grade is
not the important thing. What
you learn and retain is the
real earning. People who cram
at the last minute for an
exam, and promptly forget
it all as soon as the tests
are over, may get a higher
grade than they actually deserve. |
Think
before you complain on report
card day. Alibis are poor
substitutes for A's, and bellyaches
are poor stand-ins for B's. |

MEET
MR. KENT |
Want
to meet a dream boat? That's
our Mr. Kent -- tall, good
looking, and so very nice
to everyone. One of the things
we like best about him is
that he is always the same.
Maybe that's because he really
likes to teach. Civics is
his subject, and he has an
interesting way of getting
his ideas across. Of course,
he does have a constant companion
-- "The Board of Education"
-- which he keeps for students
who won't be civil in civics. |
Mr.
Kent was born and brought
up in Ohio, but has lived
in Florida ever since his
marriage. He started out teaching
in Howard, but has been with
Glenridge ever since it first
opened. Naturally, he thinks
Glenridge is the finest school
anywhere. |

LOOKING
IN LIBRARY |
Some
sixty-one brand new books
have arrived at the library.
You'll enjoy reading these
biographies of famous people.
There is JAMES FENMORE COOPER
by Gertrude Hecker. Mr. Cooper
is well known for his book,
THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS. |
The
story of JULIETTE LOW, founder
of the Girl Scouts, and CLARA
BARTON, girl nurse, will be
particularly interesting to
girls. The boys will like
KIT CARSON and DANIEL BOONE. |
Those
of you who have not already
met our librarian, Miss Rose,
will find her friendly and
most helpful in giving advice
on research problems. |
