THE KILT
OCTOBER 22, 1957
I noticed something at the Centenial parade last week. One of the first sights that met my eyes was the Marine Color Guard. They led the parade proudly, in perfect time, bearing the flags respectfully. I gazed at the Stars and Stripes and thought how wonderful it was to be a part of a country like America.

Then my eyes strayed to the people around me. What I saw
made me indignant. I
wondered if they didn't
know
enough to pay
respect to the flag, or whether they merely took it for granted.

I hope that more people will wake up and realize that respect is due to our flag when it appears. It only takes a few seconds to stand at attention. A small price to pay for the priviledge of living in this country.

Every morning in every homeroom here at Glenridge, a short ceremony or rite is performed. A member of the class opens a book and reads a few lines. The Class then standds and recites a few paragraphs. The whole thing takes a little less than 60 seconds. This scene should be enacted reverently and proudly. The Bible should be read with feeling and understanding. The Lord's Prayer should be prayed from the heart, not recited like a spelling rule. The pledge of Allegiance should be said with deep pride and loyalty, with each person standing at attention.

This small ceremony should become a cherished moment to each and every student at Glenridge. It should add something to our day.

Our Mystery's last name might lead you to suppose this Glenridge teacher was busy making clothes.

In case y our brains refuse to rack, the first name rather suggests-Track.

Sharp? Yea, Man! And fond of checks, of studies social, and making he-men out of wrecks.

A sense of humor and plumb full of jive. You still haven't guessed? Look in room number five.

Bill Stern's Favorite Football Stories is a book containing five stories relating to football.

The Kick Off is a wonderful story telling how a couple saved a very important game. First Quarter is a story of a strange game played by a team of eleven ghosts. It is a humorous and exciting tale. The Third Quarter explains how a heroic football player inspired a great song for a nation. The Fourth Quarter is perhaps the most interesting of the stories. In it a football coach is traded for a college dean.

Westerns and mystery pictures seem to be the most popular films right now.

"GUN GLORY" is the story of a famous gunslinger who returns home to find that his wife has died. Stewart Granger plays the gun slinger, and Rhonda Fleming is the friend who reunites him with his son.
