ON
THE SIDELINES
It
had to happen sometime! We have become so accustomed
to winning that really losing was almost unbelievable.
Students and parents alike seemed to expect
a fourth quarter miracle. Of course, it couldn't
happen.
Some
of you Lion Fans may remember the Cherokee game
last year, when the score was in our favor 25-0.
Most of the boys who romped the field on October
17 were eighth graders in that game last year,
and were unable to hold our stronger, more experienced
team. This year, the tables were turned, and
rightly so. If training and experience didn't
pay off there would not be much justice in life.
Nobody
likes to lose, least of all the boys on the
team. Lion Fans shouldn't be fair weather friends.
The pat on the back you give the boys when they
win is doubly appreciated when they lose. This
goes for coaches. Let's make sure they know
that, win or lose, we're proud of our Lions!
There's
still too much wandering during games. If we want
the adults to turn out as they have been we'll
have to nail some of these nomads down. Adults
pay to see the game, not students on parade.
We
wish our cheerleaders didn't have to baby-sit
during the games. Mascots are cute up to a point,
after that they only mess up the routines our
girls have worked too hard perfecting. Let's leave
the babies on the sidelines except during the
half-time. Is
there a set routine governing when the band will
play? Do visiting bands go first at half-time?
When do we serenade the other school? Will some
band member tell us about this phase of band etiquette?
We
get a kick out of our alumni coming to our games
wearing their Lion Jackets. Do you suppose they
miss Glenridge? Didn't
Coaches Dykes and Vickers look handsome in their
new Glen plaid shirts the team gave them?
There
must be some nutritional value in sandspurs. Otherwise,
how could Bob Mosher eat so many during a game
and still be well enough to get to school the
next day? |
THE
GIRLS PLAY BALL
Play
Ball! Slug it! The girls really got with it
in the competition between Mrs. Roess' and
Miss Folsom's classes.
In
first period the first place team the Reverons,
beat Bobbie Dixon's team, 4-0. Second place
team, Junior Cubs beat Patty Wilson's team,
4-2.
Second
period's first place teams were Dianna Todd's
team and the Comets. The Comets won 2-1. Second
place team were Mary Ezzard's team and the
Thunderbirds. They tied 3-3.
In
the third period the Bobbie Sox beat the Alligators
9-6.
Glenridge
Lassies tied the Dubs, 4-4, in the fourth
period.
The
sixth period classes have yet to slug it out.
The Go Getters and Teague's Terrors will play
Miss Folsom's winners in the fifth period
after school as soon as they can arrange a
day.
