THE KILT
OCTOBER 29, 1957

HEY LIONS, WHAT'S THE GOOD WORD?

WHAT'S  HAPPENING  IN
PHYSICAL   EDUCATION

The Boy's Phys. Ed. classes are beginning to shape up in both basketball and volleyball. Those playing basketball have found the range and are bombarding the nets with point after point.

The volleyball players are belting the ball harder and harder, but, with the wind working against them, they don't have much of ao chance.

ON   THE   SIDELINES
The girls are busy trimming up their soccer technique. Some of the girls are becoming experts at dribbling and kicking. The most active game of all competitive sports for girls is ideally suited to the brisk fall weather we've been having, and all the classes seem to enjoy the vigorous exercise.    Do we like to win? Yea, man! And what a difference a victory makes in the school atmosphere. Friday morning found everyone wearing a Glenridge grin, the coaches had a real spring to their walk, and the team . . . everyone of them looked like the lion who had just swallowed a panther.

ARE  YOU  A  SOFTIE ?

Are you a softie? Next week the Kilt will publish a feature story on the physical fitness report on American youth, 6 to 16.

In the article you will find examples of the tests given to determine physical fitness, as well as score sheet on which you may evaluate your own condition.

This article should also explain why physical eucation has become a required subject in all junior high and high schools. Also, why the grades you make in physical education are rated on a par with academic subjects. After all, your health and physical fitness determines to a large degree how well you are able to study.

HOW  THE  OTHERS  SCORED

Some of the spectators may have found the rain hard to take, but the boys on the team seemed to like it. It gave them a good chance to get their uniforms dirty and, of course, they wouldn't be normal boys if they didn't like to wallow in the mud.

"What's the good word?" "Beat Howard!" The yell is starting early this week, Lion fans must feel that if they can hang onto their victory pep we'll be able to take the undefeated Howard. We also hear that Cherokee is praying for our victory. If we win, Cherokee is in line for the championship.

There's an added inducement to getting your dads to join the Dad's Club. All students who's fathers belong will get to see the movies taken of every game. We understand there are some beautiful shots of our very supperior band, too.
