NEWS OF THE BANDS

This year Glenridge has three bands under the direction of Mr. Don Kennings.

The Captain of our senior band of about 70 members is Steve Van Ore. Head majorette is Charlotte Mc Kim, with Mary Ann Brown and Pam Stapley as regular majorettes. David Farr is 1st Lieutenant of the band, and Carol Skelton and Sharon May are 2nd Lieutenants.

The band has been out drilling and marching on the football field for the past two weeks in preparation for our first game of the football season on October 3.

IF YOU SHOULD MEET April MacDonald and she is muttering something under her breath, give her your sympathy. The loss of her pet turtle from Mr. Vickers' aquarium has her quite unhinged. April hatched said turtle from what she thought was a coral snake egg, and had grown quite fond of the nickle-sized creature.

LO, THE POOR INDIAN!

During the first two weeks of this school session Mrs. Sory's social studies classes were investigating the life and hard times of our various Indian tribes.

The four main types of Indians were presented in may interesting projects and demonstrations. They were the Woodland, Plains, Pueblo and Fisherman Indians.

Among the projects displayed before the classes were a Rain Dance by Tom Lawton, Jeff Arnold's spear and shield representing the Plains Indians, and Nancy Collins' and Brenda Smith's models on the Fishing Indians. Pam Fetlow created a Pueblo house out of cement.

In Mrs. Beasley's fifth period class there is a girl who has a mechanical compulsion. Last week she took her Singer completely apart. Now she's hunting for the book to tell her how to put it back together again.

Claudia Davis departed for New York in fine style, with a group of her buddies entertaining her at Herb's on September 17. Joline Gilchrist, Patty Pearson, Ethel Aydelotte, Diane Anderson and Shirley Deaton were there. It was supposed to be a "hen party" but somehow the news leaked and a good many of the fellows showed up.

Now we hear Mr. Vickers has lost a corn snake. Could it be the turtle and the snake eloped? With all the romance we see budding at Glenridge, certainly nothing is impossible.

According to the grapevine, the only slips in Mr. Sewell's math classes aren't the arithmetic kind. We're fascinated, Alicia!

Mr. Ansley's seventh grade classes have a new resident with long ears and a smooth light brown and white coat. He is less than one year old and his name is Mischief.

If you haven't already guessed, Mischief is a male rabbit given to the class by Wanda Bruggs. Wanda has five other rabbits to sell. For further details, phone MI 4-1739.

Other members of the class include two more rabbits, two snakes, a pair of hamsters, frog, fish, turtles, and about 40 human beings.
