LATIN CLUB

     The Latin Club was formed this year for all Latin students who wish to further their study of the language. Meetings were held once a month and during the year a Latin style banquet was held.
     Mrs. Zyltha Stinson is the sponsor of the Latin Club. The president is Bonnie Boone; vice president - JoAnn Ross; secretary - Judy Reding; treasurer - Jim Moll.

 

ORCHESTRA

      Glenridge's Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Richard Weidley, was organized in the fall of 1957 with 27 members. During the season they gave a concert for the P.T.A., gave several concerts at elementary schools and accompanied the operetta SUNBONNET GIRL.
     Orchestra members are: Gary Coppedge, Larilyn Swanson, Eugene Burnham, James Armstrong, Gretchan Schram, Marsha Silver, Mrs. Edgar Allen, Mr. Colin Ritter, Carl Pearson, Sharon Carter, Carol Skelton, John Bordley, Randy Mohn, Charlotte McKim, Bob Berry, Julie Reams, Steve Van Ore, Mike Gerlach, David Eckhardt, Jim Loomis, Dave Heckendorn, Carol Pope, Leonard Kraftchick, John Hoche, Susan Sory, Carolie Woodward, and Linda Merhill.

 

     The Plaid Club was organized after the first publication of Glenridge's literary magazine December, 1957. Invitations to membership were extended to those who had contributed to the first issue and were maintaining "B" or better in English.
     The sponsors were Mrs. Kendrick Bridges and Mr. Richard Weidley. The officers elected were Ann Spaulding-Editor; Bob Ross-Assistant Editor; Jim Stokes-Business Manager; Cathie Skinner-Assistant Business Manager.
     The second issue of The Plaid came out on May 23.

 

QUILL AND
             SCROLL
     Quill and Scroll in Glenridge is an Associate Member of the International Honorary Society for High School Journalists. Actual membership in Quill and Scroll is not possible until the junior year in high school, but associate memberships are extended to those junior high schoolers who wish to maintain the same high standards for membership.
     In order to be selected for Quill and Scroll a student at Glenridge must be at least in the second semester in the eighth grade, must have made a superior contribution in some phase of journalistic or creative writing; must be in the upper third of his class scholastically; and be recommended by the sponsor of the literary organization he has served.
     The students elected for this honor on May 16 were: Susan Chace, Judy Teague, Nancy Temple, Sue Tinklepaugh, Stu Smith, Ann Spaulding, Pat Wind, Shirley Baldwin, Tim Darrah, Gary Houmes, Bob Mikesell, Bob Ross, and Cathie Skinner.

 

RED CROSS

     For the first time this year Glenridge has had a Junior Red Cross Council. Under sponsor, Mr. Norman Wood, the group has fulfilled two projects: one, making lap boards for the OAFB Hospital; the other compiling a scrap book of Glenridge Junior High to be sent to West Germany.
     This year's officers have been Ginger Clockadale-President; Tom Newbold-Vice President. Officers for the coming year will be President-Ann Jenkins; Vice President-Paul Banzhaf; Secretary-Treasurer - Tom Newbold.
