SAFETY COUNCIL

     The Safety Council has accomplished an outstanding service in a good many areas. Besides their usual responsibilities of controlling traffic in the front of school and patrolling the halls and lunchroom, they have served efficiently at football and basketball games. The Council also participated in the Evacuation exercises.
     Mr. Howard Row has acted as sponsor of this organization since the beginning of Glenridge. Captain for the year was Ronnie Buckmaster; Lieutenants - Chip Schram and Calvin Seadeek.

 

SPANISH CLUB

      The Spanish Club was organized to improve the conversation use of the language and promote greater understanding of the Spanish-speaking countries. Meets were conducted in Spanish.
     Miss Patricia Adams acted as sponsor and was assisted by the officers: Mona Barnhart as president; Sally Llewellyn as vice president; Judy Teague as secretary and Paula Nagel as treasurer.
     The two activities of the year were a dance held December 14 and the presentation of two plays for the language classes.

 

STUDENT COUNCIL   

        Under the sponsorship of Glenridge's two deans, Mrs. Ruth Sory and Mr. Everett Bland, the Student Council has had a very active and successful year.
     The first project of the year was a guide and welcoming program, in which members assisted new students to find their way, and taught homerooms the songs and cheers of the school. There followed five orientation programs for seventh grade students and transfer students. This was organized to acquaint new students with Glenridge traditions, organizations, activities, and honors.
     The Student Council Handbook, compiled and published by the Council was made available as a permanent record of any information students would require for a happy and successful life at Glenridge.
     At Christmas the Council sponsored a "Christmas for Others" program and arranged for the various homerooms and organizations to make gift boxes for needy families.
     A Clean Up Day was held by members and a beautification project completed the planting of shrubs, grass and trees. The Council also raised the money for the fence in front of the school sign which Mr. Row and his classes constructed.
     Two dances were given, and members of the Council presented a panel discussion on the Honor Code, which was subsequently adopted by the student body.
     Student Council officers for the year were: President-Frank Ferguson; Vice President-Chan Muller; Secretary-Linda Schmidt; Treasurer-Sandra Flowers; Secretary General-Max Morris; Secretary of Publicity-Nancy Temple; Secretary of Welfare-Jim Rich; Secretary of Citizenship-Bob Mikesell; Historian-JoAnn Ross.
     The elected officers for the coming year are: Jim Rich for President; Lance Howden for Vice President; Betsy Cragg for Secretary; Bob Mikesell for Treasurer.
