HS
Represented
At Latin Forum
|
Last
Friday saw Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses roaming the
halls here at Winter Park High School. The roaming "Romans"
were on their way to Bradenton for the annual Latin Forum.
This Latin Forum, held each year in Florida
consists of contests in all types of Latin competition, such
as sight reading, translations, skits, and prepared projects.
These are judged on originality and correctness according
to legend and history. There are also activities such as the
Toga Hop and Fashion Show for the best dressed Romans. Students
also participate in workshops, oratory contests, and finally,
a real Roman Banquet.
Representing Winter Park were Diane Miller,
Rita Dunn, Linda Merhill, George Fisher, Buddy Kirk, and sponsor,
Mrs. Jordan. Officers of the Latin Club here at Winter Park
are: President, Jeannie Bradford; Vice President, Karen Horn;
Secretary, Nancy Lundahl, and Treasurer, Dodie Rossell.

'WEED DAY'
|
The Student Council's newly-formed
Inter-Club Council has set aside Saturday, April 22, as "School
Beautification Day", or more commonly, "Weed Day."
Last Friday each participating club sent a representative
to register with Sandy Cash, I.C.C. Chairman. This Friday,
April 14, is the deadline date for the clubs to submit plans
for the beautification's of their chosen areas to Mr. Wilson
for official approval. The following Saturday morning, April
22, will be the time when hundreds of enthusiastic Winter
Park High School club members will be tramping happily over
the campus, carrying shovels, rakes, boxes of pulled weeds,
etc. - we hope. A Pepsi-Wagon will be at the scene and club
members are asked to bring picnic lunches. After the beautification
is over, "Mr. and Miss Weed" will be chosen from
among the participating workers. The I.C.C. Will have suitable
prizes to give these lucky people! After the work is through,
we can go watch our track team win the county title at the
Orange County track meet which will be held that afternoon
at Boone H.S. Let's all come out and make this project a success.
See you there!

Leaders
vs. Sheep
By Dodi Simmerson
|
Recently
thousands of college students descended upon the quiet little Florida
City of Fort Lauder-dale, a repetition of previous years influx
during Easter Holidays and spring vacation. Some were tired of the
cold hard winter; others were hoping for a new romance, and still
others who were just looking for fun.
What is fun?? Certainly not getting intoxicated,
throwing beer cans and whiskey bottles at officers of the law, and
provoking mob hysteria and violence.
Do you suppose that these young men and women
have forgotten the true meaning of Easter? Do you think that these
rioting students are followers -- riding the band wagon?
Let's break the "pack complex", fellow
students. If each one of us will stand up for our beliefs, maybe
enough candles will be lit that there will never be a duplicate
pattern of the riots by the students in Fort Lauderdale.
Are you a leader or a sheep??
