Mourner's Bench
Hope ya'll had a real happy hoppy day but back to more "wails and gails".
Write your suggestions and comments to the Wi-Pa-Hi-Sc box in the cafeteria. Be sure to specify MOURNER'S BENCH for quicker attention. And away we go:
"Why doesn't the Latin Club present an authentic Roman orgy as its semester project?" writes an unemployed Roman.
Anyone interest in joining a Drama class for next year should consult Mr. Wilson. Approximately 25 students are the minimum number needed for a class.
Has anyone ever noticed the entrance to Mrs. Hill's door before first period each morning? What magnetism draws such duos as Dodi and Greg, Ann and Allen, Jackie 'n' Johnnie, plus Bill Schwartz, still clinging to his memory of Helen? Love is strange!
When's "the old man" going to get promoted to general?
Here's a winner for ya. "The Girl of My Best Friend" by Ral Donner. Like cool it until later.
Oklahoma
Celebrates
The entire cast and crew of Mr. Hotaling's "OKLAHOMA!" had a mass youth rally in the back room of Ronnie's Restaurant after the Saturday night performance. Ronnie's host, a sort of Jonathan Winters type, soon lost his smile as his place was deluged by the celebrating Cats (numbering near 80). The masses assembled and impatiently awaited the arrival of "Coach" Hotaling. When he entered, Dave Farr motioned to the entire mob to rise and bellow out a few chorus' of "Oklahoma" which shook the whole pad. Then things started to swing — loud and fast!
Jim "Jose" Caccavo thoroughly unnerved the waitress with his dialect.
Mayo bet Tim Bassler that he couldn't drink his "Gigantic" in one sip. Believe it or not, Tim Did! So Mayo had to buy him a second. "Wild Bill" Bonvie was the only cowboy there with a collapsible "six-shooter!" What a blast! By the by, Mr. Hotaling, what's up for next year? Did I hear someone mention "South Pacific"?!
Fool's   Day
Originated?
by Barbara Richardson
The exact origin of April Fool's Day is not known for sure. But for thousands of years the Hindus and the Romans set aside one day each year to play foolish tricks on friends.
Perhaps the best answer to the origination of it in the Western World is the changing from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar in 1564. Up until that time, the New Year was March 25 and the peak of the celebration of festivities came on April 1st. Perhaps it is the celebration that is the foundation for today's April Fools' Day.
Cats  No. 1   In
Central  Fla.
by Chip Schram

The Winter Park tennis team is still undefeated out of six starts. Two weeks ago they whipped Bishop Moore 6-1 and Edgewater 4-3. This past week the team slaughtered Florida Military School by a mounting score of 8-0. In the match with Edgewater, the Cats dropped two of the double sets and one of the single sets, but Rickey Chace, Randy Hall, Chan Muller and Dick Bergen all won to bring the team one point in the winning column and take the match.
Down by the 18th hole the Wildcat clubbers are fast ascending to the No. 1 spot in the area. They too have not dropped a match yet. They recently defeated Evans and Leesburg. Winter Park trounced Evans by a score of 17 holes to 1 and beat the Yellow-jackets by a score of 10-1/2 to 7-1/2. Big men on the turf for the Cats were Gary Schroeder, David Smith, David Andrews and Wayne Barns.
Against Cocoa, the Wildcat Track team stepped all over them by a score of 77-36. First place winners were: Hoffman, mile run; Holland, Firchow, Myers, Michaels, 880 relay; Elam, 440; Rollman, low hurdles; Phillips, 880 yd. run; Fleming, Elam, Rich, Whitner, sprint medley relay; Phillips, Gaines, King, Firchow, mile relay; Fleming, shot put; Giannini, discus; King, high jump; and Jim Ferguson in the pole vault.
At the Florida Relays in Gaines last week, Bill Hoffman broke the school record in the mile run with a time of 4:48.5. Running in the relays were: Holland and Michaels, 100 yd. dash; Holland, Firchow, Myers, and Michaels, 880 relay; Michaels, Myers, Elam, and Holland in the mile run; Ferguson, Lambert, and Fleming in the shot put and Ferguson, Giannini, and Lansdale in the discus.
