Mourner's
Bench
By J. Stephenson
|
And
a happy Huckleberry Houndog howdy to you too. Here are some
more very good "brick-braques and bouquets" for this
week but remember the opinions expressed in this column are
not necessarily mine. If you have a gripe just write it on a
piece of paper and deposit it in the LETTERS TO THE EDITOR box
in the cafeteria. Be sure that you specify Mourner's Bench.
Here goes:
There ought to be a new set rule written in
the constitution of W.P.H.S. stating that all students should
walk on the right side of the hall to avoid collisions and this
would prevent many unnecessary tardiness.
"Aw, what does the Student Council ever
do?" This question was asked of me. I'm going to attempt
to give my answer to the question. "When you elect a person
in your homeroom for Council, remember he is a representative,
not a member. Everyone at WPHS is a member of the Student Council.
The person you elect is merely a representative for you and
helps carry out your wishes.
I received this letter through the mailbox
in the cafeteria the other day. Whoever wrote it please clarify!
"I think the students in the cafeteria study hall should
be allowed to do so with the permission of the study hall teacher."
Could we have some better varieties of lunches
in the cafeteria?
Well, that's all for this week. Until next
week, keep right on griping. |

Last
Saturday our band was host to the District V band contest, in which
30 bands and over 1500 musicians took part.
Winter Park not only had a greater percentage of
individual participation than any other school, but also the highest
rate of superior ratings.
Our band received a superior rating from all of
the three judges in the concert division, a superior on sight reading,
and naturally a superior in drill. Nancy Temple, our student conductor,
also received a superior rating on her conducting of the "Sleeping
Beauty."
Our of 39 different solos and ensembles, 32 received
superior ratings, the highest possible.
Those receiving superior ratings were Pam Stapely
(twirling), Perky McKim (twirling), Donna Shaw (twirling), Heather
Marwick and Julie Reams (twirling duet), Perky and Donna (duet), Barry
Milstead, Mikey Goodman and Mike Gilmore (coronet trio), John Bordley,
Sharon May, Jackie Robinson and Deo Klein (clarinet quartet), Julie
Baldwin, Carol Streep, Sharon May, Julie Reams and Mike Hickey (woodwind
quintet), Bud Nash, Barry Milstead, and Randy Cook |

Gotta
say one thing for those girls. They've sure got a lot of guts.
Trouble is, some of them are in the wrong places.
It as too bad the track team had to lose its
first meet. I'm sure this record will improve. With a team that
has as much potential as ours, records are bound to get better.
The tennis team got off to a good start by
winning its first tournament. The girls are to be congratulated
or this victory. The boys tied 3 and 3. Our girls won their
matches 5 to 1.
WPHS is going to be a big power in the water
again this year. The swimming team's returning starts Jim Stokes,
Chuck Libby, Frog Finfrock and others will bring home another
wet winning season for Cats swimming team. Good luck Fellas. |
How
yo doin Cats? Better than Chan Muller I hope. Chan is our tennis
varsity letterman you know. Well bit Chan is our first tennis
casualty of the season. It seems he was attempting to block
a slam and ended up getting his nose cut open. The funny thing
about the whole accident was that Randy Hall was the player
who slammed the ball. What's so funny about that? Randy was
on Chan's team.
The next time you guys play doubles let Chan
keep score. His math isn't any better than his game, but it's
safer to have him bungle up the score card than get out on the
courts.
Well the cheerleader tryouts are always good
for laughs. |
