Cheerleaders  Chosen
For twenty-nine girls, Friday marked the end of four weeks of long, tiring practices held for the selection of Winter Park High School's Varsity cheerleaders. Monday afternoon, the student body, after meeting in the gym to observe the cheering ability of the candidates, reported to their respective homerooms to cast votes. From these votes the top 15 girls were listed and a committee made up of Winter Park's faculty selected the ten girls whom they felt were the best qualified to become varsity cheerleaders.
Varsity cheerleaders chosen for the season 1961-62 are Liz Bennett, Sigrid Bergstrom, Mary Cash, Bobbie Sias, Donna Mueller, Jeannie Britt, Peggy Frome, Judy Wingate, Nancy Thompson and Julie Haynie. Good luck girls and congratulations!!!!!
"Oklahoma," Winter Park's first musical, will be presented in the high school auditorium, at 8:00 p.m. on both March 24 and 25. Tickets, selling for $1.25 for adults and $.75 for students may be bought from members of the cast, from students belonging to various school clubs, and also at the door.
The youthful stars have been practicing for several weeks now in preparation for the coming event.
Nancy Temple portrays love-struck "Laurey" while David Farr is opposite her as "Curley". Supporting roles are held by Ken Minameyer, Jeannie Britt, Donna Newberry, Richard Wood, Vic Whitehurst, and Suzanne McMillan.
Winter Park has turned up a talented group to produce "Oklahoma" -- so don't miss this high-school production directed by Mr. Ed Hotaling.
On The Bench

By Franz Fernfilcher

Howdy Cats! Winter Park officially opened it's baseball season last weekend, which makes one more spring sport to be covered. (Along with Tennis, Track, Swimming, and Golf). The varsity lettermen's jackets for seniors finally arrived. Most of the guys are a lot sweatier but happier than they used to be. "Bo" Ferguson hasn't been out of his in a week. I sure hope he enjoys it, because it won't be long before he'll be trading it in for a Citadel plebe's uniform. Congratulations for your scholarship Frank, and lots of luck next year.

Jackie Billingham says he can't remember where he put his jacket. He probably had to hock it to help pay for the bas caps that Vernon Duncan lost while working in Jack's dad's gas station. Try cutting lawns for money "Dunk," there's less chance of your losing something.
The swimming team gave a pretty good account of itself in it's first meet against Leesburg ... especially John Miller who wrapped up the diving competition for us. Nice going John. We'll try to get you some stiffer competition next week.
I know you'll all be glad to know that Chan Muller's nose (first big tennis casualty of the year) has healed beautifully. Way to go, fella. Just make sure you don't run out of scar tissue.

What's the Varsity Lettermen's Club been up to this year? ... Bill Schwartz and Helen Grabber have run up the long-distance phone bill ... Like Suzie Gray's peach-colored shirtwaist ... Hear Ray Myers had a date with one of the head majorettes from Seabreeze High School -- How do you rate, Ray? ... Doesn't Mr. Creech look like "Bat Masterson?" ... Miss Sells' speech class has decided that they don't care for debating! ... Where did Canadian born Heather Marwick pick up her Southern accent? ... The grapevine is buzzing that L.W. and E. E. B. are no longer ... What's this triangle concerning Peggy, Doug, and a blanket? ... Back to Mr. Creech -- Why is he so fond of that old time "Lipstick On Your Collar"?... Once again, bysies! ... Susie
Here I am this week back with a little "sumpin" for ya'll to read ... Linda Myrick's tea on the 11th was the talk of the town -- so many girls were invited, couldn't begin to tell you who all was there ... T.G.I.T. (Thank Goodness it's Thursday ... only one more day 'til the weekend). ... Hear Sandy and Rusty drove over to Smyrna in the "skeeter" ... Just between you, me, and the lampost -- Jo Allen and Fred Hale are together again ... For a fun time, take a trip to Silver Springs by boat ... The Thespian initiation at Lynn Morrow's home was a kingsize success -- John Ostrow did quite a take-off on Shelly Berman -- What a laugh! ... And Robin McKenzie threw a shin-dig, too! ... "I love you", the three most misused words in the English language ...
