What a wonderful, wonderful year! A year filled with good times, good friends, good places, and … memories. Memories - remembrances of those special "somethings" that will not be forgotten for many years. Let's reminisce a few of the outstanding activities that took place around Winter Park High School this year.
September - The Student Council really set off the school year with a bank by sponsoring "Howdy Week," held to acquaint the new, as well as the old, students with the customs of the school and with their new classmates. The "Howdy Dance," was a perfect climax to this get-to-know-everyone period.
October - The Letterman's Club of Winter Park High School was organized to recognize those boys who in the past had earned letters. The main purpose of the club, however, was to try to increase our school spirit and to "Liven up" the activities of W.P.H.S. (we think they've done it, too!)
November - Homecoming 1960!! With Sandra Cash reigning as our Homecoming Queen…and then we cannot forget a first for W.P.H.S. - the first Junior Class Play, "Best Foot Forward," The play turned out to be a "roaring" success and over $400 was earned to help sponsor the Junior-Senior Prom.
December - SENIOR PRIVILEGES!!! Boy, did we get them this year! Four new privileges were granted to those "Sainted Seniors," and the privileges were put in use right away! The Christmas Formal will be remembered as a special night in December, when lovely Suzi Miller was crowned W.P.H.S. Christmas Queen. The National Honor Society inducted 14 new members into the select group, and there were 14 beaming, smiling faces seen through the school until CHRISTMAS VACATION!!
January - A new year, new promises, a new outlook on life; and life looked mighty rosy when additional parking facilities were added to the W.P.H.S. campus.
February - Winter Park High School students proudly participated in the Cerebral Palsy Telethon held to raise money for research and medical equipment to combat the dreaded disease. Also this month, the Sophomores held their annual Sweetheart Dance, with cute Peggy Frome crowned as "Sweetheart of '61." The Sophomores did a terrific job planning and decorating for the dance and they deserve a great deal of recognition. Varsity Cheerleaders for the school year

'61-'62 were chosen the latter part of February, The Senior Class Play, "You Can't Take It With You," was full of laughs, surprises, and "stars of tomorrow." "OKLAHOMA" was the familiar cry heard by all. As WPHS's first musical presentation, "Oklahoma" was a terrific smash, and will be remembered for many months to come.
March - The district Band Contest was held at W.P.H.S., and Winter Park finished extremely well (as usual)!
April - The Junior Varsity Cheerleaders for next year were selected from 30 well-qualified girls. They, too, can't wait for the coming season to begin. The Junior-SENIOR PROM!! Seventh Heaven was the setting for this memorable event, and adding to the "heavenly" atmosphere were the billowing gowns, and odor of sweetheart roses.
May - Winter Park High School contributed tremendously to the Winter Park Youth Center Drive. The new Youth Center is expected to be open to its members in August of 1961. Senior Recognition Day was filled with giggles, short skirts, and many happy faces. Then came the Senior Class Party which was held at Rio Pinar Country Club, to complete the celebrations.
June - With teas, happiness, and mingled thoughts of the future, the Senior Class of 1961 of Winter Park High School will graduate. The Baccalaureate Service will be held at Winter Park Presbyterian Church, and the graduation exercises will take place in Meade Gardens. The class of '61 writes -30- to High School days.
