DEAR
ABBY. . . |

Last
Friday it was my pleasure to meet Abigail Van Buren, "Abby"
to millions of the lovelorn. In real life, Abby is Pauline Phillips,
happily married for 22 years and mother of 2 children, a daughter
19, and son 17.
When Abby first entered the reception room of
the Sentinel-Star, it was hard to realize that the trim little lady
("5 feet, nothing") wasn't an exquisite model instead.
Her charm and poise were evident throughout the interview.
Perhaps the highlight of the morning was when
I innocently asked for the benefit of our own "Aunt Abyss"
how you know when you are in love. Her answer was the most sensible,
yet the simplest that I received from anyone. "It's when you're
ready to dismiss every other boy from your mind and settle down
with one for the rest of your life..."
In addition, Abby stimulated a conversation
concerning dating, going steady, marriage, etc. (It was a very enlightening
discussion!) Afterwards, refreshments were served, and naturally
all the WI-PA-HI-SC staff present took advantage of that opportunity!!!
"Dear Abby" appears daily in over 500
newspapers. She receives from 8 to 10,000 letters a week, 25% of
which come from teenagers.
Perhaps it is her outlook on life that makes her
the unusually entertaining, charming woman she is... Her favorite
motto is, "When you pick a lemon, make a lemonade!"

Cheers
to the Class of '61!. . . . Senior Recognition Day was "just
like old times" -- Brought back memories of Goof Off Day with
the Class of '59 when we Seniors were just "toddlers"
-- Hope things continue to rock for the remainder of the term!...And
say hey, don't forget the really big Senior Party at Rio Pinar tonight
-- There's fun in store for all who wish to partake -- so guys,
gals, and otherwise, don't be square, be there!
Three Cheers to the Junior class for presenting
such a lovely prim -- Everyone felt like they were perched on Cloud
Nine in Seventh Heaven -- It was a beautiful dream come true!...Did
anyone notice J.C. and J.B. dancing with their pants legs rolled
up?--It looked as if they were wearing a tux jacket with Bermuda
shorts legs.
Absolutely ivy!...The sunrise at New Smyrna
was gorgeous even though it was slightly chilly at that early hour!...Saw
lots of 'Parkers there, enjoying the sun and fun -- Heard "Mac"
bugged over, too, to check on the fellows!... April 22 found Miss
Kay Persons entertaining with a delightful tea at the Jade Room
-- Seen enjoying the delicious punch and petite fours were Susan
Chace, Rose Vardell, Kay Osborn, Carole Tennesson, Pat Stephenson,
Jackie Cottrell, Becky Thornton, Sherry Mason, Marilyn Murphy, Mary
Carter, Jacque Cook, Fran Ussery, Linda Schmidt, Maurine Doggett,
and many more!... Attention All Senior Girls -- You're invited to
a tea on Sunday, May 7 from 2:30-5:00, at 1515 Glenco Road -- The
hostesses will be Nancy Temple, Julie Baldwin, and Ann Spaulding
... If you get a chance, take in Gone With The Wind while it lingers
at the Beacham -- This flick is well worth your time and money!...
'Til next time, Auf wiedersehn --- By the way, Spanish students,
that's German for good-bye... Susie |

The
D.C.T. has really taken the beautification program of our school
seriously. Under the direction of Mr. Rehmond they have put up all
the posts around the auditorium, taking time off their jobs in the
afternoons to do it. Mr. Rehmond and the D.C.T. should certainly
be commended for the wonderful job they have done. |
