Have
you heard about the Lockheed Leadership Award Fund which offers nine
four-year scholarships? This award's purpose is to encourage students
in all competing high schools, to prepare themselves for engineering,
scientific, and business careers in the air-space industry.
These scholarships provide full tuition and basic
fees for a four-year college program, plus $500 for personal expenses.
The requirements are based on leadership, capability,
studies, student activities, and community life. Further qualifications
are: applicants must be under 25; must be in senior year; must be
eligible to start college and meet college requirements for admission.
Six of the nine scholarships apply to engineering
colleges: They are Massachusetts Institute of Technology; California
Institute of Technology, North Carolina State College of agriculture;
University of Michigan, and Georgia Institute of Technology.
The other three relate to non-engineering colleges
of Harvard College, Emory University and Pomona College-Calif.
Be sure to write for applications as soon as possible
for these scholarships Write to Director of Admissions of the college
in which you are interested. |

Hadley and Gretchen Schram, our CAT council representatives, tell
us that the CAT council is having a kick-off dance. This dance is
to be held Friday night, November 25, in the WPHS gym from 8-12 p.m.
Recently, signing parties have been held by gals from all the classes
to enlist help for the council. Even if you haven't been "signed",
come to the dance and support your CAT council!!!
Borrowed from Expose': Sophomore Bill Connors and
a certain senior were caught napping before lunch in World History
class by an alert Mr. Johnson. ALSO The news is out!! According to
remarks over heard in homeroom, Ricky Andrews is a champion hockey
player -- electric hockey, that is!! |

It
seems as though the Short Skirt fashion has taken W.P.H.S. by storm.
Last week Pat Clarke went a little overboard and wore a kilt about
"10" inches above the knees. Sharon Horner looks real cute
in her purple short skirt and sweater dyed-to-match. Also seen sporting
the "skort" are Linda Tindall, Ellen Igou, Mary Van Nymegen,
Sigrid Berstrom, Diane Flowers, Suzie Miller, Carolyn Rayburn, Jackie
Cottrell, and many, many more.
A few days ago a couple of SAINTED SENIORS got together
and decided to wear sweat shirts, knee sox, and short skirts to school.
It went over in a real big way. Those seen in this unusual get-up
were Brenda Osteen, Suzie Miller, Jackie Cook, Mary Ann Brown, Suzie
Cushing, Dottie Bell, and a few others. As usual, when the Seniors
do something it always goes over in a big way. The juniors must have
been impressed because they wore them the next day. Hey you juniors,
why don't you get original????
Someone once told me "If you don't like the
weather in Florida wait a few minutes and it will change." That
saying has readily held true in these last few weeks. One day you
will see someone in a summer sun dress; the next day that someone
is wearing a wool skirt and crew neck sweater. Oh well, "variety
is the spice of life!" However, I know we all want ole' Jack
Frost to come around so that we can all get out our new winter clothes.
After all, I must have something to write about next week. |

Don't forget the start of the basketball season
for the GAA girls. It starts next Tuesday and continues every Tuesday
and Thursday until Christmas vacation. Come on, sophomores, let's
really participate!!!
One of the biggest things this weekend is sophomore
Dorinda Duncan's "by invitation only" dance at OAFB. For
more details, see Sue Sturges' column next week. Remember, guys and
gals, invitations must be presented at the gate so don't forget yours!!
Speaking of dances, don't forget the dance tonight
after the Apopka game in the gym. Let's all go to the game and dance.
Remember it's our last home game of the season. Beat Apopka!!! |

There
have been so many parties lately that I don't know where to begin
this column, so think that I'll start with Susan Carter's "Fall
Festival". Lynn Ricks, JoAnn Ross, and Nancy Temple, three talented
SENIOR gals provided the guests with lots of entertainment. Among
those joining in the singing and dancing were: Fran Ussery, Carl Dunn,
Linda Schmidt, Dewey Ramsby, Mike Mercer, Carole Cubbedge, George
Mayo, Bill Schwartz, "Rose", Bob Ross, Sharon Horner, Chan,
of course, "Bo" and Carole Tenneson, Kay Persons, Jackie
Cottrell, Jacque Cook in the cutest culotte outfit, Ronnie Peacock,
Allen Burris, Bill McGinnis, Chuck Libby, Jeff Arnold, Jay Gustafason,
"Lynn and Gary", Kathy Browne with John Bordley, and stacks
more!
Claire Harold has been the lucky honoree at not
one, but two parties recently. Happy Birthday, Claire!
Joyce Jones and Judy Hopkins gave a "Wild"
beatnik party a couple of weekends ago! I hear that the guests enjoyed
dancing, singing, Right John? A few of the many who attended were:
Janet Squillanti and Ned Whitner, Tom Prince, Mary McJunkins, Marcia
McCord, Bobby Sias, Mary Cash with Bill Collier, John Ridenour (Mr.
Prince Charming, himself!), and quite a few more.
Ann Jenkins, a darlin' junior miss, was honored
by her parents with a lovely luncheon at Morrison's Imperial House.
Ann is now "Sweet Sixteen".
Well, Dewey, Carl, and Frank, did ya'll have fun
at Gainesville's Homecoming? You certainly were in gay spirits when
you returned to Winter Park! Susan Chace is another local girl who
made it up to the University for their Homecoming festivities. Seems
as if Carolyn Rayburn met Gov. Collins while she was at the barbecue
preceding the game. Must be nice to mingle with celebrities Miss Rayburn,
what's your secret?
Ya'll take it easy over the Thanksgiving holidays.
We want to see your smiling faces back at school come Monday! Stay
Happy! |
