One
of the most successful dances of the year was held last Saturday night
in the cafeteria. Sponsored by the S.S.S. Tri-Hi-Y, the Twerp Twirl
was a roaring success. One thing for sure, this dance was different!
Fellas and gals just traded places for a night, to the delight of
the boys, particularly. First came the worst part of the whole thing,
the inviting .W.P.H.S. has never before been so full of trembling,
quaking girls.! Now we see what the guys go through all the time,
and once is enough!
After the asking, came all the planning. Girls hit
their bewildered fathers for the car, while the boys asked what time
they had to be home. Some LUCKY guys even received homemade corsages.
(Not many were brave enough to wear them though.) The girls that picked
up their dates went through the unfamiliar routine of meeting parents
and opening doors. (Who was nervous???) Then came the dance!

Goon
Boon Award |
The
Goon Boons tied for first place during the past couple of weeks
and the Wi-Pa-Hi-Sc feels that both deserve recognition.
Robin
McKenzie and Suzy Cushing hit the spotlight again when they were
listed to see the Wi-Pa-Hi-Sc in homerooms the other day. If you
bought one from them chances are you got cheated; they were papers
from the week before. Congratulations to Robin and Suzy!
Jacque
Cook, Barb McCartney, Sharon White, Carol Giddens and Susan Chase
decided they were going to pep up school spirit for the Lakeview
game; so, with all good intentions, they took off to give their
support. Well, they heard the cheering, saw the crowded bleachers,
and figured they had found the game they were looking for. Just
as they got settled, one of the girls observed that they were intently
cheering a negro team. Congrats again gals!

The
gym was artistically decorated with red and black crepe paper, vari-shaped,
gayly colored balloons, large figures of Lil' Abner and Daisy Mae,
and the letters spelling TWERP TWIRL on the wall. Before you could
enter, though, your date had to be weighed-in and the girls paid accordingly.
(Who was rich enough to bring Frank?)
Highlight of the evening was the "gettin' married",
and about 25 couples were united in this tender ceremony. Steve Stevenson
made a great "Marryin' Sam", and was an absolute riot in his costume
and with his remarks! He married such couples as Bill Collier and
Mary Cash (it was a struggle to get Bill up there), Dodi Simmerson
and Greg Holland, Bobby Sias and Charlie Matthews, Allen Burris and
Ace Spaulding, Nancy Thompson and George Bridges, Cheryl Pritchard
and David Pughe and many, many more. Didn't see how many were in the
"divorce line"!
Close to 230 people were at the dance and all agreed
it was a roarin' success. Thanks to the S.S.S. Tri-Hi-Y for a wonderful
time. |

Jr.
Class News |
The
Junior Class has really been busy the past few weeks, selling sweatshirts.
These attractive sweatshirts which are navy blue, with white Wildcat
letters, sell for $2.50.
Sometime next week there will be a meeting of the
Prom Committee with Mrs. Weissenberger and Mrs. Hill as sponsors.
At this meeting, the theme and location will be discussed. At a future
meeting, the following committees will be selected: Decoration, Program,
Clean-Up, Refreshments, Borrowing, Chaperones, Entertainment, and
Publicity.
We have to date, in our Treasury, $368.68, but after
"Best Foot Forward", we hope for a decided increase in our
funds.
We won't be selling stationery this year. As for
student Directories, they are being discussed, but we won't have any
elaborate ones, as we lost money on them last year. If we have them
at all they will be mimeographed with names, phone numbers, and addresses
of all students.
With basketball season coming up, people are needed
to work in the concession stand for our home games. If interested,
contact Tommy Lawton or Jim Stokes. |
