"WE HONOR THE TRUTH"
VOL. XXVI NO. 3
WINTER PARK, FLORIDA
SEPTEMBER 29 , 1960
FRANK  RETURNS  FROM  EUROPE !!

Pep Rally Held

Wednesday, September 21, sixth period -- students shuffled and shoved their way into the gym. The occasion -- the first senior high pep rally for sophomores!
As the varsity cheerleaders entered the guy, the crowd quieted. Mrs. Wilson, our principal, explained the cheers one by one, as the cheerleaders went through each cheer, some of them several times. "Well, Who are You?" has been completely revised as far as actions go, and is now done with shakers as is "Orange and Black". The latest (and greatest!) cheer, "Snap-Clap" has an unusual beat and captivating motions -- needless to say, it met with vast approval.
The cheerleaders have lowered their voices which makes for better cheering and, too, gives them greater volume. The uniforms have not changed, but are still most attractive as are the cheerleaders themselves.
Jr. varsity cheerleaders, in black skirts and white sweaters, went through several cheers, also; then were joined by the varsity gals for an old favorite, "We're from Winter Park."
On Friday the second pep rally was held -- this time for the entire school!
Mr. Wilson introduced both sets of cheerleaders, the football coaches and players, and the Wildcat band. The cheers were once again explained and gone through while an enthusiastic audience participated in the yelling.
Keep up the spirit of '60 'Cats!
As the band played "On, You Wildcats" the cheerleaders went through the dance which is a part of the song. The Alma Mater was heard for the first time this year, and then, once again, "On, You Wildcats" was played as the crowd, now anxious for the Melbourne game, departed.

Represents Florida's Hi-Y's
At World Convention
Frank Ferguson, senior at Winter Park, was chosen last spring to be one of two delegates from Florida to represent the Tri-Hi Y and the Hi-Y in Amsterdam. While in Europe, Frank was able to see part of the Olympics.
Frank and Doug Miligne of Jacksonville first went to Canada and then followed up with visits to Ireland, England, Holland, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Germany and the Rhine, Austria, Italy - Rome, Switzerland, which appealed to Frank more than any of the other countries, and France.
The attending representatives were divided into several groups, spelling "FRIENDS." Frank's group called themselves the DDT's, which stands for "Dynamic Diplomatic Travelers."
While at the Olympic in Rome, Frank sand the most impressive things that took place was the opening -- the most inspirational parade, the three cannon salute, and the turning loose of ten thousand pigeons to declare the opening official. The most humorous sight was when an unknown college boy in sprinting form, leaped from the grandstand and ran around the enormous track.

When asked about his impression of European girls, Frank replied, "They're very different from those here at home." -- He neglected to say why.
Frank arrived at the Orlando Municipal Airport September 15th. On hand to greet and welcome him home were his parents, Colonel and Mrs. Ferguson, Mrs. Fred Kersey of the Orange County Y.M.C.A., JoAnn Ross, Chip Schram, Linda Schmidt, Chan Muller, David Smith, Susan Carter, Juluis Mullins, Richard Gianinni, Clark Lambert, Sue Sturges, Pete Wilson and Bob Ross.
Two flying banners were part of the celebration also. They read "Welcome Home, Bo!!", and "Go Home, Yank!!" After several rounds of wild applause, cameras flashed and people gathered around to see what all the commotion was about. Frank was quite the celebrity.
Frank's back at school now, with a much wider concept of life, both here and abroad.
Welcome home Frank, WPHS is proud of you!
