SCIENCE
CLUB
Lately
Glenridge has been organizing several clubs.
Among these are the Science and Math Clubs.
The
Science Club is sponsored by Mr. Alabough of
8-1. It's members are Robie Vestal, president,
Bob Sutphen, first vice-president, Bill Hunkapiller,
Sandra Martina, Sharon Mitchell, Tommy Holliday,
Carrie O'Rork, Herb Hanks, Joe Mozzer, Bill
Springs, treasurer, and Lois Rayle, secretary.
The
club meets every second Tuesday in every month
at 8:00 to 9:30 PM.
When
the club expands, the group will be divided.
Bob Sutphen will be the president of the second
group and the vice-president will be elected.
The
club purpose is to go further into science and
different subjects of science than is possible
in regular science classes. It is also going
to try to get more science equipment for the
science rooms in school. |

MATH
CLUB
The
Math Club right now is small but the sponsor,
Mr. Sewell, says I'd prefer a small group rather
than a large one. It's members are Robbie Robinson,
Jack Schmidt, Jimmy McCord, Jerry Meed, David
Payne, and Oliver Staley. The club doesn't have
any officers.
They meet in Mr.
Sewell's room every Thursday morning from 8:00
to 8:30.
The club has made
an electric scope but as yet it doesn't work
because the right materials are not available.
They are studying
atomic energy at present.
The club might
take a trip later this year but Mr. Sewell says,
"Later on." |

GOES ST. AUGUSTINE
St.
Augustine is a beautiful place according to
my homeroom, 8-6.
We were the fortunate
class that was able to visit St. Augustine on
October 29. While in St. Augustine, we saw the
old fort where Osceola was held prisoner. We
also saw the oldest house, the slave market,
Potter's Wax Museum, Ripley's Believe It or
Not house, and the oldest school house.
We all missed
the other members of the class who were unable
to come.
Our teacher found
a wonderful idea for the naughty children in
the oldest school house. It was very small room,
just large enough for one person and very dark
indeed. When the old school was in use, the
teachers used to put the naughty child inside
and the child would stay there until the teacher
thought he had enough punishment. I don't think
our teacher has talked to Mr. Stockard about
it yet and I Hope she won't have to. We would
like to thank Mrs. Webb, Mrs. Wattles, and Mr.
Broyles for being so kind as to transport us
and hope they enjoyed the trip as much as we
did.
The people who
went were Mrs. Sory, Mrs. Webb, Mrs. Wattles,
Mr. Broyles, Jody Smith, Tommy Holliday, Gee
Gee Wattles, Chip Emerson, Pat La Croix, Patti
Bates, Sandra Sconyers, Carolyn Webb, Michael
Fox, Bill Sprig, Kathy Stone, and Judy Broyles.

THE NAMING OF THE SCHOOL PAPER
A
couple of weeks ago the first copy of our School
Paper was put out. Since the paper had no name,
we here at Glenridge started a campaign to name
it. At first this seemed very easy - all you
had to do was vote on one of the names sent
in by the students. You would cast your vote
by dropping pennies into jars labeled with those
names sent in by the students. This, however,
didn't work out so we voted again. Still this
didn't work out. The rooms sent in the name
that their rooms had chosen as the best. Three
were chosen as best - "The Ticker Tape",
"The Glenridge Echo", and "The
Glenridge Kilt". We voted once more and
the Glenridge Kilt was chosen. Joanne Ross is
the girl who sent in the winning name. She was
awarded a check for $1.00 in Assembly. |
