VOL. III No. 10
GLENRIDGE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, WINTER PARK, FLORIDA NOVEMBER 19, 1957
L I O N S   T O P   L E E   14 - 13

Martha Cooper Redina, one of the authors attending the Central Florida Book Fair, spoke to many English classes at Glenridge on November 4.

Mrs. Redina has written five novels. The first four were a series with a New England background. Her latest, Lolly Touchberry, is set in Florida, and is about a 14 year old girl in the ninth grade of a Junior High School built at the same time Glenridge was.

Mrs. Redina told the classes she visited how she goes about writing a novel, the planning it involves, and many interesting facts about the actual publication of a book. The students showed genuine interest and asked many probing questions.

Our library has the first four Redina books. The fifth one is on order, and should be here shortly.

The ninth grade Tri-Hi-Y and Hi-Y will have Clean Up Day on November 23. All ninth grade members will meet at school at ten A.M. Tri-Hi-Y members will bring two lunches, which the Hi-Y boys will buy. They will spend about five hours at school cleaning and planting.

Jeff Arnold won third prize in the Central Florida Book Fair Poster contest.

Glenridge squeezed a 14-13 victory out of Robert E. Lee November 14, to wind up the season with a 4-2-1 record.
The Lions scored early in the first quarter on a fine end run by Rusty Doolittle with Gene Mooney kicking the extra point. But Lee wasn't long in scoring. They made a T.D. after a 25 yard plunge and made the extra point to tie the score.
At half-time the Lee band performed first with a scotish number, and then a satellite spectacle. The Glenridge band performed in the dark with "twinkle toes" lighting the pattern of their marching.
In the third quarter Ray Myers broke loose and went over for the second Glenridge TD. Again Gene Mooney made the extra point by kicking.
In the middle of the fourth quarter Lee went over on a long pass, but missed the extra point, making the score 14-13.

MAGAZINE DRIVE NETS $9475.00 LIONS BEAT APOPKA
The annual Magazine Drive came to an end on November 15 with a total sale of $9475 in subscriptions.
The high room in the drive was Mr. Ansley's 7-5, with a sale totalling $905.80. Col. Wood's 7-7 came in second selling $814.50. Both these rooms had 100% participation, which means that each student in the room sold at least one magazine.
The high rooms in the eighth grade were Mr. Weidley's 8-7 with $475.25, and Mrs. Regan's 8-4 with $464.30. In the ninth grade Mr. Sewell's 9-8 was high with $409 and Mr. Benson's 9-3 came in second with $393.80.
Top salesmen were two ninth graders and one eighth grader. Susan Cushing, although hospitalized during the drive, managed to sell $112.75. John Delgado came next with $106, and Eddie Head with $102.75.

The Apopka Baby Darters were out for victory on Nov. 7 and they gave the lions a scare in the first half.

The Lions were held scoreless in the first quarter, and had many penalties against them. But Rusty Doolittle set up our first T.D. early in the second quarter, and Gene Mooney kicked the extra point. Apopka came back and scored and tied the score.
