Dear Pam:

I am a boy 14 years old. I would like a motor scooter, but my parents think they are dangerous and won't let me have one. How can I change their mind?

Desperate

Dear Desperate:

If you get desperate over motor scooters you're going to have a rough time in life.

Your parents' attitude is understandable. Motor scooters do get involved in a good many accidents and the scooters always lose. But if you are still insistant upon having one, start saving to buy one. When your parents see you doing without to save for one, they may give in.

Dear Pam:

I like a certain boy very much. He liked me too until several girls started spreading untrue rumors about me. Now the boy ignores me, and, what's more, I've lost a good many friends. Give me some advice.

Gypped

Dear Gypped:

There isn't much you can do about a rumor but ignore it. To protest only gives emphasis to the gossip. If the boy you mention is worth caring about he will be wise enough to judge people on his own experience, not hear-say.

Dear Pam:

I am going to a dance where all the girls will be wearing heels. My boy friend and I are the same height. If I wear heels I'll be taller than he is. What shall I do?

Long Sam

Dear Long Sam:

It depends on whether to care more for your boyfriend's feelings or fashion. Boys like to be taller than the girls they are dancing with. I'd vote for the fellow!

SCADS    OF   FADS
A fast spreading fad is gluing your boyfriend's picture to the ceiling of your room. The idea is he'll be the last thing you see at night and the first thing in the morning.
Tab Hunter fans' word for great is "Tabulous".
Slam books are here again. Basically slam books are notebooks with the names of your friends in it ... one person per page. Everyone you show it to has to put their opinion of the person.
The new fad in bobby-socks is thick-soled socks for "Sock Hops".
A new kind of cashmere sweater buttons up the front and the back. Each side is a different color. This lets you switch halves to form different color combinations.
One way to keep from going crazy every morning trying to pick out your costume for the day is to make a list of all your school clothes. Then list all the possible combinations you can make by mixing and matching your clothing. Make a chart for Monday through Friday, and write in what you intend to wear.
There are three kinds of girls -- the beautiful, the intellectual, and the majority!

SONG    SENSE
AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER... when school is out for summer vacation.
BON VOYAGE... when you hand your mother your report card.
GOODY GOODY... no homework!
I'M INNOCENT... when sent to the office.
SHE'S GONE... when the teacher leaves the room.
STROLLIN' BLUES... late to class.
TWELFTH OF NEVER... time to eat.
