THE KILT
November 2, 1956
Dear Pam,
Who are you anyway? Is Pam Flanders your real name? It sounds sort of made up.
--Curious
Dear Curious,
In the words of the Bard - "What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
Incidentally, is your name really Curious? If so, How curious!

Dear Pam,
When should a boy or girl start thinking of a future career?
--Just Wondering
Dear Just Wondering,
Some fortunate people discover the career they want to follow early in life. Others flounder for a long time.
Each one of us seems to show a particular ability in some field. Try to select a career to match your ability and personality because your success will be largely dependent upon the satisfaction you derive from your work. Not, as some people think, by the amount of money you make.
The Deans at Glenridge will be happy to discuss a possible career with you.
--Pam
Dear Kissable Kate,
Sensible people save this gesture of affection for a few special people. If you start passing kisses around like door prizes they become meaningless and cheap.
You know the dummies they use in football to practice tackles on? Make sure you aren't being that kind of dummy in this kissing business. When the boys got into a real game the dummies are left behind.
While we're on this subject -- those of you who sit in the show and try to compete with the love scenes on the screen are putting yourselves in teh category of freaks in the Side Show.
At your age affection should be expressed in casual good fellowship. You are definitely not ready for single dating in dark corners.
--Pam
*****************************
Dear Pam.
I like a boy in my homeroom. How do I let him know that I like him? Don't tell me to wait and let him find out -- I've tried that and it doesn't work. What do I do?
--Eager
Dear Eager:
If the object of your affections had to have your feeling for him beaten out on the war drums there is something radically wrong with his receiving mechanism.
Of course, it is possible that he does get your message and isn't prepared to recipricate. Ever think of that? In which case it is far better to beat a dignified retreat.
