Everywhere
in America these days there
is much interest and attention
given to Christmas. A spirit
of friendliness and good fellowship
appears. Our thoughts are on
the presents we will receive,
the holiday food, and the Christmas
tree to be decorated. Most of
us have not a care in the world.
What are people
in other parts of the world
thinking about at Christmas.
Some of them are not as fortunate
as we are. Some of these people
have not eaten in many days.
Their lives have been disrupted
by circumstances beyond their
control. They are so busy trying
to survive from day to day that
Christmas for them is not a
time of gifts and colorful decorations.
We in America
too often put the emphasis on
material things at Christmas
and forget that we are celebrating
the birth of Christ - the Prince
of Peace. The unfortunate people
of the world should serve as
a living reminder that we must
work harder to bring "Peace
on earth good will toward men".

I
am not so old, but even I can
remember the way Christmas used
to be. A few years back you
would go to the city on the
tenth of December and there
wouldn't be one Christmas decoration
to be seen. Recently the decorations
have been going up before Thanksgiving.
Christmas has become a race
between department stores to
see who can get their decorations
up first. They are displayed
so early that by the time the
Great Day finally rolls around
the spirit of Yuletide is old
hat.
If it weren't for the ministers
in our churches and their spiritual
crusade on Christmas, the true
meaning would be lost forever. |

Christmas
creeps up once a year.
Suddenly we work with fear
Christmas Eve, and nothing done!
We were going to have such fun.
For the trimming of the tree
Was just left to you and me.
And the cookies and the candy.
We were going to make so dandy.
Christmas came a bit too soon.
Quick! Help me wrap that other
spoon! |

Softly
falling snow flakes
White against the sky,
Cover the world in splendor
As Christmas time draws nigh. |
