ROUND ROBIN BASKETBALL

Do you know what a round-robin is? No, its got nothing to do with bird life. Glenridge had a round-robin tournament three weeks ago. It was a series of basketball games between different homerooms. Coach Mosher was in charge.

On the first night, each homeroom played some other homeroom, 7th grades against 8th grades. The regular basketball boys could not participate. (They are too good!)

   The teams playing in the quarter finals were 7-2, 7-3, 7-5, 7-7, and 7-8; 8-6, 8-5 and 8-3.

In the semifinals, 7-3 beat 7-5 by the score of 6 to 5. Only one point win! Again by a one point win 8-6 nosed out 8-5 by a score of 9 to 8. Congratulations to the grade champions.

In the finals, 8-6 triumphed over 7-3, 26 to 14.

High scorers through the games were: 8-6, Claude Deaton, Bob Mier, Chip Emerson; 7-3, Joe Martin, Clark Lambert, Vic Vermillion; 7-5, Rusty Doolittle; and 8-6, Wayne Duncan.

People planning for the future--those are the physical education classes pulling roots to make room for Glenridge's future football field, track field, basketball courts, and maybe, a softball field.

Though some complained of sunburned backs and aching muscles, they realized that anything worth having is worth working for. A word to the wise...don't get in the way when Coach Mosher or Mrs. Striefer blow the whistles to come in. Everybody makes a made dash for the new showers. Um! Such luxury!

TOURNAMENT NEWS

Robert E. Lee Junior High School eeked out a victory over the Glenridge five Saturday night, February 17th. The final score was 44-40. It was said by many to be the most exciting game of the year. The Glenridge bleachers were filled to the brim with enthusiastic rooters.

The outstanding players were Mike Mosher for Glenridge and Danny Rivenbark for Lee. Mike proved his ability to handle for ball by dumping in 21 of our 40 points. He got 7 field goals and 7 free throws. Bill Blackburn was next in scoring with 7, and Bob Sutphen tossed in 6.

Rivenbark made 15 points with 6 field goals and 3 free throws. Stuart Hall popped in 12, and Gene Kendall got 10.

It was Hall who, during the last period, was fouled and tossed in 1 free throw to tie the game up, and his next one put them ahead by one point.

The score by periods was: 2nd period, Glenridge 6, Lee 4; 2nd period; lee 10, Glenridge 11; 3rd period; Glenridge 10, Lee 14; 4th period, Glenridge 6, Lee 13, for a total score of 44-40.

The boys who are on the team and who contributed to this game and other games deserve much credit for their skillful playing and sportsmanlike conduct. Even though we lost, we know we lost fairly and took it like good sports! We hope this will be true in all the other games that any team plays for us.
