Meet The Teacher of the Year

Glenridge's Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Mary Stebbins, has also been elected Teacher of the Year for Winter Park, she will be competing with teachers throughout Florida for the Teacher of Florida.
Mrs. Stebbins has had twenty-two years of teaching experience; four years at Avon Park, twelve years at Cherokee, three years at Howard, and three at Glenridge.
Mrs. Stebbins was motivated toward a teaching career by both her grandmother and mother, who were teachers. And also by her desire to help young people and prepare them for their future.
College training for Mrs. Stebbins includes work at the University of Georgia and Florida State.
In this day of teacher shortages it is interesting to know what prompted this outstanding teacher toward a career in teaching. Mrs. Stebbins says, "I consider teaching a profession providing the greatest satisfaction through helping others."
"To me, it is not enough to merely present subject material to the best of my ability. The greatest satisfaction derives from aiding young people to establish a sound set of standards, to assume the responsibility of living, and to approach all areas of life in the spirit of service. It is just as important for teenagers to learn about the ways to live as it is for them to absorb subject material."
These students who have been privileged to study with Mrs. Stebbins will agree that her personal attitude toward life has been an inspiration to them.

"The Sunbonnet Girl" is coming April 29! Save the date, save the dough, and see our first school musical show!
Perhaps you have heard the glee club practicing the lilting tunes during sixth period, or watch the orchestra launching into the rousing overture that will begin the play. Maybe you had a chance to make one of the sunbonnets the girls in the cast will wear, or worked late at night painting the scenery. That's the fun of a dramatic performance -- so many people have a hand in the preparations.
The story of the operetta revolves around the trials and tribulations of a talented orphan, played by Sharon Sindad, who has been left in the guardianship of a miserly and crotchety old couple, played by Paula Banzhaf and George Newton. These two are determined to thwart the girl's one desire -- a theatrical and musical career.
The play opens with music auditions being given to the young people of the town in order to determine which one deserves the prize -- a music scholarship. The Sunbonnet Girl, aided by the towns most eligible young man, not only wins the scholarship but the heart of the fellow, too.
The supporting cast include Sally Lovett, Gary Ford, Melodie Eddy, Bill Benner, Carol Parkman, Patricia Dowling, Fred Marshall, Pam Fetrow, Susan Goetzen, Judy Garren, and Verne Kowalke.
The entire production is under the direction of Mrs. Richard Weidley.
