WPHS
At WPYC
Ceremonies
|
by
Dodi Simmerson

On
Saturday, April 15, many saw their dreams come true as they participated
in the dedication of the new Winter Park Youth Center. This center
means a completely new outlook for Winter Park.
A parade of many gaily decorated cars, started
at WPHS and traveled through town to Ward Park for the dedication.
The Senior Hi-Y All American Boys looked sharp in their white jackets
as they proceeded in Chip Schram's new, blue DeSoto convertible
decorated with red, white, and blue streamers. The girls from the
UCYM were the flapper fancies of the Roaring 20's. Speaking of flappers,
Suzanne McMillan almost lost hers!
Mr. Ken Wacker, sponsor of the Hi-Y Club, acted
as master of ceremonies; Max Morris was the student speaker, and
Mary Carter turned over the first shovel of dirt. Roy Davis did
a fine job of lining up all of the cars and making sure that everyone
was in his right place.
The Wi-Pa-Hi-Sc would like to thank everyone who
participated in the dedication of the Youth Center. We know it will
be beneficial to all. |

PROM
! ! !
|
The
excitement is mounting around Winter Park High School with the 1961
Junior-Senior Prom around the corner. Yep, tomorrow is the big night
... we can't and won't reveal the theme of the Prom, but the Junior
Class has promised music, music, and more music! They will be dancing
to the tunes of Billy Vader and his band, and the prom committee
has also arranged to have music to fill the intermissions. Guest
tickets are available in the main office of Winter Park High School,
and they will be available to any Junior or Senior of the school.
Remember all, it will be a night to remember! |

KEY
VICTORY
DANCE HELD
|
by
Pamme Anderson
|
Friday
night, April 14, a Victory Dance sponsored by the Key Club was held
in the cafeteria immediately after the Key Club-Wheel Club annual
basketball game. Some of those seen dancing to the dreamy blare
of the juke box were: Jo Ann Cunningham and George Bridges, Marcia
Gruber and Fred Robinson, Jim Call and Kay Harris, Julie Haynie
and Dewey Ramsby, Jim Henry and Linda Tindall, Judi Kirkpatrick
and Tim Hartung, Gain Cannon and Dave Smith, Kay Person and Chip
Schram, Jeannie Jones and Billy Howell, Nancy Temple and Dave Eckhardt,
Ann Spaulding and Allen Burris, Julie Baldwin and Tommy Woodruff,
Bill Blackburn, Jane Mitchell, Ellen Igou, Jim Mayer, Judy Hopkins,
Randy Hall, and many, many more.
We hope that at the next school function of this
sort, there will be a larger turnout of BOTH sexes. Fellas, when
the odds are about three to one, in favor of the gals, the going
gets rough!! |

SENIORS:
Are you tired of the daily lunchroom confusion and noise? Tired
of being indoors with all that Florida sunshine outdoors? Need a
new lunch-room atmosphere? We have just the answer; a SENIOR LUNCH
PATIO.
After 11 long years of school, a student deserves
some special privileges as a reward for his "hard" work.
A SENIOR LUNCH PATIO COULD PROVIDE JUST THE ANSWER.
How easily a PATIO could be constructed adjacent
to the west door of our cafeteria!
The PATIO would consist of a low block wall (to
keep the lowerclasses out), and a floor with some sort of greenery
to add atmosphere. The PATIO would also be equipped with picnic
benches for our beloved SENIORS.
Such a project would not be extravagantly expensive.
It has been tried in other schools and worked successfully. If the
three classes currently at W.P. could pool their money, the PATIO
could be built as a permanent monumental contribution to WPHS.
This project certainly merits consideration, so
please start considering! |
