Alumni
News |
By Sharon Horner |
Most
of the alumni of Winter Park will be coming home for Thanksgiving,
so that means news. Those coming home just to name a few are John
Jane, Beaner Howden, Ann Taylor, Phil Hoffman, Bob Wiser, Bob Crane,
Tommy Cushing, and all the "Old Gang."
Tommy Cushing and Jimmy Pascoe were seen wandering
around the halls last Friday. They must miss the old place. I think
Tommy just wanted us to see his new car. Pretty sharp!
I was talking to Bob Clark not too long ago and
he said that Terry Egan won't be playing football at Idaho any longer.
He injured his shoulder. That's a shame as Terry won the scholarship
for football.
Rollins College, which Ann Taylor and Jo Ann Richards
attend, informs us that it now has an enrollment of 228 freshmen,
making a total of 678 students.
Carrington Sharp, a '59 alumni is planning on getting
married this Christmas. Our congratulations to you, Carrington!
The Wi-Pa-Hi-Sc staff extends its sympathy to Lynda
Bussells our 59-60 editor of the paper, on the loss of her father. |

QUESTIONNAIRE |
What
would you do or say if someone called you a Xanthippe????
MARTHA BAKER: "Slap
'em then turn around and run!"
GLORIA BEASLEY: "Same
to you!"
SHERRY VINES: "I'll
play along with the game--What is it?"
JACKIE COTTRELL:
"I'd smash them!!!!"
PAM KELLY: I wouldn't
believe them."
SANDY BOWMAN: "Why,
thank you!"
KIM HADLEY: "Takes
one to call one!!!"
For all of you who
are interested, Xanthippe was Socrate's wife whose peevish scolding
and temper have become proverbial. (She was a "shrew".

C. News |
The
main discussion in the Student Council meeting last Wednesday concerned
the unpaid auction debts. These debts were several weeks overdue and
it was the general opinion of the Council that this debt should be
doubled if not turned in by the Thanksgiving holidays. After much
discussion on the subject of doubling these I. O. U's, Mrs. Ramsdell
informed the Council that this action could not be taken. If anyone
reading this article is one of the many "debt dodgers" it
would be greatly appreciated if you would turn in your money immediately.
Many of the homerooms are not being represented
at the Student Council meeting. Although Council has been very lenient
so far, it has been it's custom in the past, to ask the homerooms
to replace representatives who have been absent twice during the year.
There is no excuse for representatives missing the meetings. For if
the representatives can't attend the alternate or another member of
the class should come. Meetings are every other Wednesday and Student
Council expects to have 100% representation from now on! |

The
Winter Park Junior Varsity team won four of their sic games to give
them a 55 and two - thirds percent average of all their games. High
point man was Randy Hall with 25 points, while Jeff Arnold was the
team's leading ground gainer. Other statististics are: The longest
pass was from Caldwell to Hall for 45-yds., and the longest run was
by Pollard for a gain of 55-yds. Handling the punting was Hall and
Pollard, and when the team needed the extra point, they called on
Reynolds to make it. The leading pass receiver was once again Hall.
Congratulations to our winning team!! |

Basketball
Intramurals |
Due
to the fact that the WPHS basketball team must begin practice, the
girls' intramural's have been changed from badminton to basketball.
In this way, the badminton nets will already be down before the WPHS
team comes in for practice.
Other changes made were the dates and time. Instead
of Mondays and Thursdays intramural's will be held on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. Also intramural's will begin promptly at 3:20 and end at
4:00.
We hope to see a lot of girls there. Don't forget
the new date and new time! |

Teacher
of Week |
Born
in Albany, Georgia, Mrs. Jean Rosenberg, head of the Language Department
here at Winter Park High School, is looking forward to the new "Language
Laboratory" equipment that is arriving soon. This is the latest
technique in the teaching of foreign languages, using tape recordings
of the voices of mature instructors. The foreign language student
also can record his own voice and be able to listen to himself.
The instructor will have an instrument which will enable her to
hear the recordings. Although 30 booths are needed, the Spanish
department thus far has been allotted only eight.
Receiving her Master's
Degree in Inter-American Affairs from the University of New Mexico,
Mrs. Rosenberg worked for the government as a translator during
World War II.
Having taught both
at college and high school levels, Mrs. Rosenberg enjoys high school
better because quoting this teacher, "It's such a frantic,
mixed-up age, but such an interesting one!"
The Wi-Pa-Hi-Sc this
week salutes you, Mrs. Jean Rosenberg! |
