Intramurals
Begin
|

Girls
intramurals began last week with a short informative meeting n the
gym. Miss McGill, girls' physical education teacher, will direct the
intramurals. This activity is an inter-school activity which promotes
good sportsmanship and fair play. It also gives girls an opportunity
to make new friends within the school.
To start off this year, the girls will be playing
volleyball. Other sports which will be played throughout the year
are softball, basketball, and soccer.
Any girl who wishes to acquire membership in the
GAA must earn 75 points the first school semester and 50 points the
second school semester. Girls can earn 5 points every time they turn
out to take an active part in intramurals.
Intramurals will be every Tuesday and Thursday of
each week after school at 3:10.
There's a lot of fun in store for all, and we hope
to see you all there! |

Mrs.
Servoss and the administrator stresses the importance of the handbooks.
These contain valuable information for all newcomers to Winter Park.
Everyone is urged to read them.
The number of students enrolled to date is 984.
There were 1,064 registered on the schedule cards. Many of the registered
students have moved from the Winter Park High School district, accounting
for the loss.
Winter Park has some additional guidance counselors
for the boys. Mr. Gordon, is standing by to help any needy sophomore
boy with a problem. He will be in the office both first and sixth
periods giving advice. During fourth period, Mr. Rehmund will be on
hand to assist any needy junior. Both Mr. Gordon and Mr. Rehmund are
both qualified and understanding, so make use of these fine counselors. |

Winter Park High School is very lucky to have
as head of the guidance department, Mrs. Benjamin Ramsdell, a woman
of many interests and experiences. Mrs. Ramsdell, the daughter of
a real old-fashioned country doctor, mentions that the horse and
buggy her father used for professional calls, was an important part
of her childhood.
Mrs. Ramdell's varied experiences explain her
versatility. Her services at the Relocation Center for the Japanese
and Americans during World War II served as the basis for her master's
degree.
Radio and TV are among her other interests. Stop
in and hear her views on "Is college a right or a privilege?"
You
can frequently see Mrs. Ramsdell perched top the family's tractor
lawn mower, too. She considers exercise and sports an important
part of her life and fits as much of it into her busy schedule as
possible. She also adds her singing talents to the Bach Choir at
Rollins.

This
year the exchange department of the Wi-Pa-Hi-Sc hopes that it will
be possible to bring to you, the readers of this paper, high school
news from around the world.
Now, for those of you who are naturally curious,
here's how we can do it. We want to exchange newspapers in many different
countries.
As of the present, we have obtained a number of
addresses but not as many as we'd like, so, we appeal to you! If anyone
knows the address of any high school overseas, please contact the
following after 4:00 p.m.
Barbara Richardson, Exchange Editor, MI 4-4000 or
Pat Allen, Assistant Exchange Editor, MI 7-7136. |

Two
things that Mrs. Ramsdell would like to see done in this area: a PUBLIC
Junior College built for students who wish to do only two years of
college work, and the students develop a great interest in their high
school education.
In Mrs. Ramsdell's office is a wealth of information
of schools and colleges. College catalogues from Agnes Scott to Harvard,
are available for the asking. All students are urged to come in and
browse around the office. Career information fills an entire office,
and whether you want to be an engineer, fashion stylist, doctor, interior
decorator, or even an Ichthyologist, a Herpetologist or a Numismatist,
you can obtain information here!
Mrs. Ramsdell is anxious to meet and help ever new
student at Winter Park High, especially the seniors. Since there are
one thousand of us, and only one of her, so you are urged to plan
a time to talk to her.
The WI-Pa-Hi-SC salutes you, Mrs. Benjamin Ramsdell,
the finest counselor in the land. |

"A
Donut and A Cup of Coffee; The Same Thing" Impossible!! According
to Mrs. Andrews, a new addition to the Math Dept., it can be proven
they are the same, mathematically, of course.
Mrs. Andrews comes to us from Robert E. Lee Jr.
Hi Sc. in Orlando. She likes W.P.H.S. very much and hopes to open
new doors for her students through math (Algebra I and II to be exact).
College-wise, Mrs. Andrews has attended both the
U. of F., where she received her B.A. and F.S.U. where she received
her Master's degree. |
