GLENRIDGE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
NOVEMBER 19,1957

The Magazine Drive is in full swing, with each home room section out to beat its neighbor's score. Our goal is a nice round number - $10,000, of which approximately one-third stays in Glenridge.

Since the students are the ones who do work in this drive, we thought it only fair that they should be the ones to determine what should be done with the money they earned. The following quotes are some of the ideas expressed in a recent Kilt survey:

BARRY SEAMAN: "Build a dance floor in front of the cafetorium.
MARTHABEL HUSMANN: "Give part of it to the Student Council for their beautification program, and spend the rest on a dance patio."
LARRY HUTCHESON: "Build a paved track."
DEANNA DUDLEY: "Spend part of the money for a Year Book."
CARL DORIGAN: "A down payment on a swimming pool."
KENT WOLFORD: "Enlarge the Phys. Ed. rooms."
CAROL GIDDENS: "I think we should get bike covers and the rest go toward a dance patio."
KAREN CROWLEY: "Buy more books for the library, and save the rest."
MARILYN SPICER: "Air conditioning for the cafetorium."
BECKY THORNTON: "Use it to plant grass and trees."
GLEN MASON: "Improve bike parking and improve our landscaping."
JIM MOLL: "I think they should improve lunchroom facilities."
CARL MERLET: "Build a baseball diamond, and bjy gym equipment."
SHARON MACDONALD: "Enlarge the girl's locker room."
DAVID MASON: "Build a patio for dancing, with piped in music, and landscape it."
DONNIE HELLER: "Divid it between the kids."

The Kilt committee in charge of surveys believes that most students are in favor of a dance patio. However, since there seem to be some other worthwhile projects with supporters, it might be a good idea for the top ideas to be voted on by the whole school.

Sitting in section "G" (notice the section, please) of the opening session of the State Convention of the Florida PTA were two of Glenridge's stalwart supporters. We were curious about all of the big doings we'd heard about at home, and, of course, anxious to hear the concert being given by Winter Park High Band. Since we were neither delegates nor participants, we decided that we would become Kilt reporters - just so we wouldn't waste our valuable time.

It really was impressive, even if Carol Skelton nearly upset the wiring for the floor microphones, and yours truly thought someone had just left some old wires laying around. Except for all the waving across the auditorium at people they knew, the parents and teachers behaved quite well. Never again let them comment on how we go crazy when we meet our friends!

We were thrilled at the performance given by the band, and it was quite an honor for the Winter Park High Band as there were delegates from all over the state present at the meeting to set up a plan of action for all Florida PTA organizations.

Coming home, we picked up a PTA magazine, and what do you think we discovered? GLENRIDGE BEAT HOWARD... GLENRIDGE BEAT CHEROKEE... GLENRIDGE RUNS WAY OUT IN FRONT OF MEMORIAL... GLENRIDGE BEATS LEE. No, we haven't gone crazy. It is true. Last year Glenridge Junior High had more PTA members than any other junior high in Orange County. Howard had 705; Cherokee- 664; Memorial-426; Lee-762; Glenridge-797.

How about it, kids - if your parents haven't already joined the PTA urge them to do so. Incidentally, grandparents, uncles and aunts are eligible to going too.

Mr. Ansley's ninth grade civics class voted to try an experiment in traditional education. They will be guided by the 20 Commandments of Russian education.

At the end of the third six weeks marking period the class will compare their progress under the Russian manner with their progress under our American system.
