COUNTDOWN

Who Me?

Notes

Well, the Count's column creeps from the crypt for the last time. Next week I wing my way back to my beloved Transylvania for the last time. (I must remember to stock up on carbonated bat's blood and no-cal candied eyeballs for my journey.) But I shan't depart from the clammy corridors of WPHS without one more victim. And who deserves it more than Neil Haldeman.
Neil hails from Sakcet's Harbor, New York and has been living in Winter Park for seven years. His greatest interest (besides Karen) is baseball and he's been playing since he was old enough to pick up a bat it's been two or three years at least). As a member of the famed WPHS Wildcat nine, Neil has lettered for the past two years. Although he realizes that his part record has been nothing but great, "Pig" Haldeman feels that this is his best year. The third baseman has kept his batting average above .300 most of the time and he leads the team in errors.
Most of you Wildcats will remember it was sadly announced last year that Neil was moving to Germany. Deeply grieved, the baseball team decided they would present Heart-broken Haldeman with a baseball autographed by the entire Wildcat nine. The team planned to surprise Neil by present it to him at an assembly. It was a surprise all right. Neil skipped the assembly... and then he didn't move to Germany!
Last year, Neil won the Orange County Bar Association Essay Contest and brought great honor to this school. His plans for the future include college but he doesn't know where. Countdown salutes you, Neil Haldeman. You're a modest young Senior that is bound to find success in life. And, oh yeah, thanks for the 5 bucks you paid me to write this rot!... I shall remain ghoulishly yours, Count Karlon Torgosi, R.I.P.

Are You Aware
By Pamme Anderson

Can you, as a student, answer the following questions? If you think yourself to be adequately informed about your school, you should be able to answer the questions with little or no trouble.
1.) How many teachers are employed by WPHS?

There seems to be a trend toward brief descriptions, using as few adjectives as possible. Whether this is due to a lack of proper adjectives or a lack of adjectives on the part of the individual raised a question in my mind, so I asked several people to describe in only three words the thing that they know best -- THEMSELVES.
...Bill Ronay: handsome (?), dashing (?), debonair (?).
...Lynn Furr: tall, warm, and willowy.
...Ken Minameyer: nice, considerate, lovable.
...Marty Grove: I can't!
...David Farr: poor, stupid, and ugly.
...Anthony Barron: intolerant, egotistical, and intellectual.
...Susan Carter: blond graduating SENIOR.
...Mark Lobe: well-rounded and living.
...Maurine Doggett: Oh, get serious!
...Ed Fishback: French, debonair, undecided.
...Carol Streep: That's impossible!
...Chan Muller: the "nifty netter".
...Linda Schmidt: I'm out of (Sorry -- too many words!)
...David Smith: bored American boy!
...Suzanne McMillan: happy, homely SENIOR.

(Are You Aware continued...)
2.) Who are the club presidents, Class Officers, and Student Council Officers?
3.) Who are the Team Captains, the Band Captain?
4.) What was the date of construction of WPHS?
5.) What is the average grade on Senior Tests at WPHS?
6.) What are the average seating accommodations in a classroom at WPHS?
7.) How many football games were won this year?... How many basketball games?
8.) Can you give the background of three of your teachers?
9.) What is the School Policy of WPHS?
10.) How many students are enrolled in WPHS?
Winter Park now counts among it's other trophies this year, the Orange County Sports-
manship Award presented by the Orange County Y.M.C.A. This award has never been won by the school before in its entire history.

What are the 1961 DCT graduates planning after graduation? Barbara Ferguson and DiAnn Coppenhaver who have been working at WP Memorial Hospital go to Gordon Keller School of Nursing in Tampa and University of Florida School of Nursing. Marjorie Rokta and Pam Lipson move into permanent jobs with WP Telephone Co. where they have trained this year.

Icardi, where she trained this year; Judy Law is going on permanent employment with General Guaranty Insurance Co., her training agency; Carol Graham is staying with WP Federal Savings & Loan Assn. in her capacity as general office worker. munity Reading Club to roll up the money as a contract closer.
