Happiest
memory: I had a lot
of happy times at WPHS. However, the one that sticks out
in my mind was the football game against the Apopka Blue
Darters when we were losing 13-7. The stands had pretty
well cleared out -- I believe it was their homecoming
game and most everybody had left for the festivities.
The loyal Wildcats stayed and in the final seconds of
the game we not only got a touchdown, we got the final
point and WON the game 14-13 just as the buzzer sounded.
Funniest/weirdest coincidence: We had dinner
with the former director of our historical society and
her husband and discovered during the conversation that
her parents had retired to Maitland and lived directly
behind Col. and Mrs. Walter Dillon. Small world!
Children: No children of my own. Husband
has two sons and a daughter.
Grandchildren: Zoe (1)
Present work and/or activities: My husband
and I are interested in antiques and collectibles; we
are also involved in our local historical society and
I give school tours at the historical society's museum.
Bio: I graduated from Rollins with a BA
in English and worked as a legal secretary in Orlando
in the field of personal injury and wrongful death litigation
until my marriage in 1990. At that time, I "retired"
and moved to Corning, NY. My husband retired from Corning,
Inc., at the beginning of 1991, but is currently working
two days a week as a consultant. We have a small seasonal
home in Florida and will be dividing out time between
New York and Florida. When we married, my husband inherited
my small dog and cat and I inherited his two sons and
one daughter and their respective spouses. We now have
one beautiful granddaughter born to his daughter and son-in-law
in 1991.
Future plans and goals: Enjoy each other
and our retirement.

DID
YOU KNOW?
(as of 2005) Happiest
memory: nothing comes to mind other than what
I wrote before
Funniest/weirdest coincidence: In addition
to what I wrote before, since this website has been up
and running I discovered that Betty Jane Chambers, now
Betty Jane Schricker, once lived in Corning, NY, where
I now live. Since it's not that big of a town, although
it is home to a Fortune 500 company (Corning Incorporated),
that was another "small world" thing.
Children: One wonderful dog with whom
I am joined at the heart; no children; 3 stepchildren;
a nephew and 2 nieces of my own and several nieces and
nephews on my husband's side.
Grandchildren: 2--Zoe just turned 14
and Oliver is 10-1/2--they are the children of my husband's
daughter
Present work and/or activities: I actually
"retired" when I remarried in 1990. I am very
involved in my church, doing a number of things including
being Clerk of Session, sitting on the Personnel Committee,
acting as Volunteer Coordinator, ringing in the hand bell
choir, working once a week in the office and filling in
for the Administrative Assistant when she's on vacation,
and sitting on various short-term and ad hoc committees.
I also do volunteer work at a local hospital and work
sporadically as a trained mediator. I love doing counted
cross-stitch projects and hope I'm keeping my mind sharp
by navigating through crossword puzzles. I bowl on 2 leagues
and manage to eat out quite a bit with friends. Tess and
I love to travel and have bought a new small RV (after
retiring the old one after 115,000 miles) to continue
to do just that. I guess generally I just try to keep
myself out of trouble.
Bio: After graduating from WPHS, I went
a year to the University of Florida and then transferred
to Rollins College where I graduated with a BA degree
in English. I spent my entire career as a legal secretary,
working in the span of 25 years for only 2 separate law
firms. My first marriage ended in divorce in 1985 (no
children) and I remarried in 1990, "retiring"
with that marriage and moving to Corning, NY, where I
still live since the death of my husband in 1996.
Future plans: Continue to do what Tess
and I are doing because it seems to be working quite well
for us.
Comments: I think I had better update
our "now" picture again!! |

Catch Up

From: Max Morris
Looks like you are doing
great work. Thanks for trying so hard. Gives some of us
old recluses time to say thanks.
I had a stroke in 1996,
triple bypass in 2000 and diabetes. I am retired from
the practice of law. Actually health problems were no
big deal. Just accelerated retirement by 12 years. Only
out 4 days with heart surgery. No worst than chest cold.
I have an interesting story which I can dredge up in a
trade association article I wrote. Not to be boring, I
went to the emergency room because of heart pains. They
thought I was a keeper because of elevated blood pressure
they put me on the gurney to take to cardiac observation.
While on the gurney I suffered a massive stroke. Coma
for ten days--hospitalized for 47 but have full function
of all limbs, speech and have no residual affects at all.
Somebody up there was watching out. I am the luckiest
guy in the world and have to tell the story just to remind
myself how fortunate I am. Max |
Max
and his wife Pat live locally so they did not have a
long distance to travel to attend the 50th class reunion.
Max has two children. His favorite WPHS teacher was
Dr. Bender. "...He prepared us for college".
He lists his hobbies as growing orchids, photography,
oil painting and fiction writing. His favorite sports
are football and basketball. His favorite vacation spot
is Hawaii. Max told us that "...Chan, Bob Ferguson
and I prearranged getting into Chemistry lab to complete
Chem II experiment. His favorite WPHS memory is all
of the great teachers.
